For this broadcast of my monthly Hour of Kush show I proudly present Hibernation. All the music is by Hibernation + a Hibernation remix of Gnomes of Kush.

Hibernation is a project by Seb Taylor. Seb Taylor really needs no introduction. The mastermind behind such projects as Shakta, Kaya Project, Digitalis and many more…Mr. Seb Taylor has been a driving force in underground electronic dance music for over 2 decades.

Gnomes of Kush has also delivered to Section Records a new full length album titled ‘Honey’. Another fine treat that is once again packed full of luscious chill out beats and dub vibrations. Including collaborations with D-Echo Project and Displacer, ‘Honey’ is that sweet audio nectar you have been searching for to relax your mind and give you a little sunshine and peace. Enjoy!

What a year! 

We met so many great artists, made a bunch of new friends and had one heck of a summer. 
Watching this community grow bigger made us want to create an appropriate picture of the things that already sprung from it and also of things to come. 

Trying to condense all the creativity that came to life during the past few months, we put together something that reflects our journey and features as many of the directions we're headed in as possible.

About a year ago, I was contacted by Kateryna Ostrovska, ukranian singer, musician and composer based in Hamburg, instigator and curator of the "Peace Project", to ask me to remix this song she recorded with 36 people from 15 countries. 

"Out of the wide and rich audio material from the recording, Rafael Aragon created a smooth and mellow downtempo track. With his own science of sound collage and ethnic percussions, he extracted the essence and the main Yiddish vocal and harmonic parts of the song, to display a brand new, "chiaroscuro" version of the song."

ABOUT THE ORIGINAL TRACK :

/We shout for Peace/

"36 people from 15 countrys gathered together to send a peace message to this world. The song was produced by a jewish and an arab singer from Hamburg and Berlin. It's based on an old khassidic Nigun (jewish religious vocal music) “Volt ikh gehat koyekh”, which has been transformed into a peace song a long time ago by singer Adrienne Cooper.

The more the war makes us dumb, the more you want to scream, sing, pray and whisper for peace. When one day everyone participates, when nobody distinguishes between “us” and “them”, when a deep comprehension of unity touches our hearts, the war will stop by itself. This is the message of the song, sung in Yiddish, Eton, French, Arabic and German.

This song is dedicated to those who, far from the limelight, reach the rescuing hands to people in need."

Pigmalião, not only known for his elegant productions, but for digging the vinyl crates, found another gem in musical history, this time from Japan. Being truthful to Itsuroh Shimoda’s original he extends the percussion line, shapes the bass and adds psychedelic synths that send shivers down your spine.

Recorded around christmas 2018 as a nod, ode and shoutout to one of my long time selector heroes Mixmaster Morris. I first became familiar with him in high school ca 2004-05, hearing his early 90's classics as Dreamfish and The Irresistible Force. But it wasn't until around 2012, when my own DJ-adventure was already living it's own life, where I started to notice his true brilliance: behind the decks. As a hobby music historian/anthropologist I loved digging into his older and newer mixes (easily found online), exploring his vast library of music and learning that it can be completely OK to hear a Minnie Riperton ballad next to Plaid next to an old, dusty house track next to an Adrian Sherwood dub beast. Don't think in terms of genres, think in flow, think in the tidal waves that make up the human spirit. Spontaneity. Joy, sadness, depth, memories, experimentality, playfulness, and back to joy again. Always come back to joy. Perhaps this isn't the words Morris would use himself, but this is my understanding of his wordless teaching. It has been a revelation to me, and something I've been trying to adapt to my own art ever since. And for that I'm forever grateful.

In the summer of 2018 I joined my friend and DJ colleague Anders Navigare to Ozora Festival. Quite accidentally the two of us received a drop of pure and very potent acid in the moment Mixmaster Morris started playing at the Dome stage. Let me tell you it was quite possibly the most powerful musical experience in my life. I thought I knew the music world of Mixmaster Morris, but I guess you can't really say that until you've been tripping under his command. Outside the Dome an enormously violent thunderstorm was causing havoc over the festival, but inside we had the most loving and blissful music experience, grooving to D'Angelo, DJ Koze, Kamaal Williams, Flying Lotus, The Orb/Sun Electric and gosh, did my heart melt to the sounds of "hey teachers, leave those kids alone!!!"? I kid you not, I bursted into tears twice over these 4 hours! Forever imprinted into my DNA.

I bow my head and wish to express my deepest gratitude and respect for you Mixmaster Morris, if you ever read this. Thanks for all the inspiration throughout the years.
