In my work, I explore the transmission of music, particularly folk traditions. This is why I aim to delve into a specific realm of atmosphere and pan-mediterranean structure. In doing so, I seek to both counterbalance and transgress dominant occidental tuning systems, moving away from rigid tonal frameworks toward a more modal approach, freer, more organic, and rooted in alternative systems of resonance and listening.

Le projet qu’on m’a commandé pour les Festes Baroques, consistait à créer une composition qui établisse un dialogue entre musique baroque et production sonore contemporaine.

Dans cette création, j’ai cherché à rejouer certaines structures tonales propres au baroque, tout en les faisant évoluer vers une forme de composition modale. Ce qui m’intéresse profondément dans la musique, c’est la narration, et ce dialogue entre les époques et les langages musicaux, m’a tout de suite attiré. Pour détourner certains accords baroques classiques, j’ai choisi d’utiliser des modes pan-méditerranéens et des micro-intervalles ou micro-tons. À l’inverse, certaines parties conservent des mélodies d’inspiration classique, mais interprétées par des instruments non occidentaux, comme le oud. Je me suis aussi interrogé sur la question de la narration rythmique, car le rythme tel qu’on l’entend aujourd’hui est assez absent de la musique baroque. Cela m’a amené à travailler autour de la répétition, de la densité sonore, et à interroger la façon dont on perçoit le temps dans une pièce. 

Cette pièce a donc été un long mais passionnant périple.

Rooted in underground culture and Fine Arts, Raïa Blava develops an immersive ritual ambient project at the crossroads of experimentation and tradition. Working solo as composer and sound sculptor, he explores vernacular musical transmissions with a particular focus on folk and pan-Mediterranean traditions. Blending clarinet performance, handmade instruments, and traditional textures, his music departs from dominant Western tuning systems to embrace a freer, modal approach attuned to alternative resonances.

His compositions craft dense, meditative atmospheres in constant tension, dissolving conventional structures to explore tone as presence and rhythm as a guide through lost paths. Each performance becomes a passage: a gesture as much plastic as musical, as a way through losted paths.
