For our 15th edition of our RainureCast series, we welcome Light of Cacti.
A very different approach to our series that you might not be used to, but our ethos has always been: electronic grooves. This fits the bill on a much more chilled out / unwinding from a heavy night out tip. The next Deep Mind Music comes from one of my dearest friends, and greatest inspirations - hems

hems and I have a special connection, we both love to adventure through musical lands strange and beguiling, evocative and unusual, and have spent many hours together digging through obscure backcatalogs or making our own noises experimenting with hems’ many synthesisers in his studio in London 🧡

hems plays music like no one else I know, he has a magic touch and deep sensitivity for representing all shades of human existence. From the sublime to the transcendent, the unsettling to the hilarious, hems’ sets takes listeners to the beyond and then further still.

I first invited hems to make a mix many years ago, so I am very happy to finally welcome an entry from him. This recording is the first 2.5 hours of an all-night 8 hour set hems played at an intimate private gathering in Mexico City in March of this year.

In this recording hems coaxes us to drift inwards, to enter into an unusual landscape, to open up to all the elements of sound, contrasting pre-Hispanic music with vintage synthesizer tracks and much more.  

Listening to hems’ sets over the years has expanded my mind towards new possibilities, his selections and genius touch for programming evoking many deep epiphanies and insights. This mix is brimming with vitality and life, I hope you enjoy this kaleidoscopic voyage into the mystical 🌿 ~

Alongside DJing, hems produces very deep and intricate experimental electronic music I highly recommend checking out, often utilitising spatial audio systems or even playing gongs live, and he also runs the amazing Titrate records with @o-utlier, as well as his own mix series @hardcore-chillout with @EightFoldWay

ahead of our next gathering, resonance regular @ahrkh, a.k.a, alex macarte founder of golden ratio frequencies label, nts host, and member of psych-noise veterans gnod has gifted us this 2 hour resonance mix, recorded live at a secret outdoor location in late April, just outside of hebden bridge, west yorkshire, during what was a beautiful blooming spring!

this heady mix is a journey through sounds and genres that tunes into the frequency of this very special secluded space, which we will soon visit for a mysterious gathering of souls…

“when resonance invited me to record a live dj set, outdoors, in a private secluded off-grid location this spring, I obviously jumped at the chance! I knew if Resonance were involved, there would definitely be some magic afoot! And I was not wrong. Surrounded by streams, trees, birds, flowers in bloom and blue skies and sunshine, this was little slice of utopian paradise! 

with only a handful of us laying back to enjoy the natural surroundings and with no plan as to what I would play, I could really zone in and just melt into the environment, going with the flow as the sounds of the the birds, water and leaves in the spring breeze intertwined with music, creating a symbiotic sound world or rest and peace.

to get a flavour of his upcoming set at said gathering, lock in and ride the ambient, ethereal journey with us, through the dripping waters of the calder valley, with field recordings from the recording location mixed into the sounds from an array of artists, from home and further afield.
