Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria. The city is located in the plain of the same name in the west of the country. Sana'a is the capital of Yemen with a population of 2,545,000 (as of 2017). In 2012, the population was 2,575,347.

Sana'a is the political, economic, and cultural center of the country. As the capital district (محافظة أمانة العاصمة / muḥāfaẓat amānat al-ʿāṣima), the city of Sana'a is on the same administrative level as the governorates of Yemen and is also the capital of the Sana'a Governorate, which surrounds the city.

The city lies 2200 meters above sea level at the western foot of Mount Nokum, famous for its iron mines, 320 kilometers north of Aden and 152 kilometers east of the Red Sea coast.
