Niger officially the Republic of Niger, is a landlocked country in West Africa. The river Niger, which gives it its name, flows through the relatively densely populated southwest of the desert and savannah state.

Niger borders Algeria and Libya to the north, Mali and Burkina Faso to the west, Chad to the east and Nigeria and Benin to the south. It is a landlocked country with shares in the Sahara, the Sahel and Sudan. The largest city in Niger is the capital Niamey. Other major cities are Zinder, Maradi and Agadez.

The former French colony has been independent since 1960 and is home to a variety of different ethnic groups. Since independence, seven different constitutions have been passed and four military dictatorships have been installed, and a military dictatorship has been in place again since the military coup in 2023.

The existence of most of the Nigerien population is threatened by regularly recurring droughts and famines due to a rapidly growing population due to a lack of birth control. Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world. The United Nations Development Program lists Niger as one of the countries with low levels of human development.

The UAE consists of the emirates of Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain. Before independence in 1971, the Emirates were known as the “Treaty Coast” or “Treaty States” because of the protectorate treaties that local rulers signed with the United Kingdom in the 19th century. Arabic is the country's official language, but English is also widely spoken.
The UAE has the seventh largest oil reserves in the world, is the most developed economy in the Middle East and one of the richest countries in the world with a per capita gross domestic product of $71,139 (adjusted for purchasing power in 2020). The United Nations Development Program lists the country as one of the countries with very high levels of human development. The International Monetary Fund classifies the UAE as a “high income developing economy”. The country is a founding member of the Gulf Cooperation Council and a member state of the Arab League, the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, OPEC and the World Trade Organization.

The UAE has around 10 million inhabitants, but only around 10 percent of them are nationals. The majority of the population are migrant workers; this is the second highest rate of migrant workers in the world after Qatar. Due to labor migration, 40 percent of all UAE residents come from India (28 percent) and Pakistan (12 percent) alone. Because migrants are predominantly men, the UAE also has the world's second-highest proportion of men in the total population.

The UAE is governed by authoritarian rule. Freedom of expression is severely restricted and serious human rights violations occur regularly in the United Arab Emirates, especially against women and migrant workers.

North Macedonia is a landlocked country in Southeastern Europe. It is partly located in the northwest of the historical region of Macedonia.

North Macedonia has been a member of NATO since March 27, 2020, and has been a candidate for accession to the European Union (EU) since 2005. North Macedonia has one of the weakest economies in Europe and is undergoing a process of transformation, both economically and politically. The country is struggling with high unemployment, weak infrastructure, and a lack of investment.

The Treaty of Dayton ended war within the country and created a unified but highly decentralized (federalist) state. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a member of the Central European Free Trade Agreement, the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (observer status), the Council of Europe, a participant in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Cooperation Council for Southeastern Europe. Furthermore, the state has been an official candidate for NATO membership since 2010. At the summit of the EU member states in Brussels on December 15, 2022, Bosnia and Herzegovina was officially granted status as a candidate for accession to the European Union. After the Soviet invasion in 1979, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan supported and financed mujahideen against the Soviet-backed government. After the Soviet withdrawal and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the mujahideen defeated this government in 1992. However, the division of power failed due to rivalries; the fundamentalist Islamic Taliban militias came to power in 1997 and rigorously enforced a radical interpretation of Islam, particularly Sharia law. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in the United States, the Taliban regime, which had sheltered members of terrorist organizations, was overthrown in the War on Terror, which was largely led by the United States. Since then, this war, which was also waged in Afghanistan, has dominated events for a long time. The country established itself as a democratic, Islamic republic through the 2004 constitution during the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), but was ruled authoritarian throughout its existence. Following the withdrawal of international troops at the end of August 2021, the Taliban quickly regained control of the country and proclaimed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. There, the Taliban rule in a totalitarian manner and commit even more massive human rights violations. Among them, there are many arbitrary arrests, torture, and killings. Women are oppressed, and freedom of expression is severely restricted. Afghanistan has ranked by far last in the global Democracy Index every year since 2021.

The country has been shaped by more than four decades of civil war. The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan is considered catastrophic. Many people in Afghanistan live in extreme poverty and suffer from hunger.
