‘Growing Tree from Within’ is part of a large scale work titled "Stone becoming Sand", which intends to explore Classical Guitar sonorities worked out through the edition of previously recorded sounds.

The piece works with a catalogue of somewhat indefinite pitched sound objects, set up as an organic whole in three tracks. The overall layout is built up through the combination of more controlled and more improvisatory contexts, which are juxtaposed and superimposed in different degrees as contrasting materials.

The title refers to nature elements and their inner forces of organic growth in expanded time.

Ramón Otero's work is mostly driven by two creative approaches. On the one hand, the quest for musical contexts in which contrasting materials (used to build up form) coexist as an organic whole but can still be perceived as differentiated elements: unity and diversity all at once –antithesis and paradox as musical form. On the other hand, the development of a working method which intends to explore sonorities worked out through the edition of previously recorded material. The pre-recorded material allows me to isolate sound objects that will be subsequently multiplied through modification of its sound parameters, repetition and re-location in all sorts of linear and overlapped combinations. With this working method, the same recording session may produce endless combinations; hence the multiplication concept. Both score writing and sound editing are constitutive parts of the composition process.
Even though the results of this working method may be produced as fixed media, as the composer controls every detail on every stage of the process [like a visual artist normally would], the multiplied instrument method allows for any combination of pre-recorded and edited material with live performance or live electronics.
