@le-motel is a film composer, graphic designer and producer who draws on his worldly travels to make richly immersive music. It comes detailed with field recordings from remote locations, visual cues from his design work and a mix of the organic and the synthetic and has mixed up everything from jazz to juke, techno to hip hop. As well as running Maloca Records he has picked up props from Gilles Peterson for an album for New Zealand’s Cosmic Composition, has collaborated with Fuzati on Ombrage Éditions went solo into a breaks, bass and grime fusion on YUKU in summer. 

Now the Kiosk Radio resident arrives in our podcast series with 60 minutes of earth-quaking global rhythms. The tempos are slow to start with but the impact is heavy from off. Lithe minimal drums fizz with dystopian energy and evolve from deep and dubby to broken and intense as Le Motel ramps up the pressure and keeps your body moving in ways only he can.

Fast At Work co-founder Carré comes through with a freaky low-end mix scattered with her own productions and new + old classics such as Martyn’s ‘Vancouver’, Mia Koden’s ‘Racket’, and Skee Mask’s ‘Soundboy Ext.’ 

Based in LA, Carré founded the Fast At Work party series in 2021 as a reaction to the lack of parties focusing on the more leftfield electronic sound. Launching the party with a free event focused on the resident DJs, the Fast At Work series as since booked the likes of Darwin, Livwutang, INVT, Introspect, Spekki Webu, and Josh Caffé - the latter in collaboration with the Signal crew. Soon the series will be expanding as they launch at label arm which was recently announced with Carré’s next EP, 'Soft Fascination', as the first release featuring remixes from Priori and James Bangura. This shortly follows her debut on Darwin’s SPE:C label which was received with huge acclaim, supported by the likes of DJ Mag, Beatportal, Attack Magazine and more.

Last year, when we wrote that "the best UK garage is coming out of Los Angeles," we were talking about Introspekt. The US DJ, who has since moved to New York, really understands the genre—its appeal, swing and unique, bassy whomp. Listen to any of her tracks, like last year's "Forlorn," and you'll hear someone who produces like she's been making UKG all her life. This is probably partly because she comes from a dubstep background, but either way, if you're looking for new UK garage beats, Introspekt is one of the best going right now.

Her DJing also hits a distinct sweet spot, zeroing in one of the proto-dubstep, dark UK garage days when producers like El-B were making the hottest shit around. Her sound is both retro and forward-looking, as you'll hear on her RA Podcast, which balances vintage Big Apple cuts from Skream & Benga with new-school tunes from Amaliah and Surusinghe. It's not so much a throwback as it is a rejuvenation of an old sound—a new way to look at it and a new way to make it. If hindsight is 20/20, then Introspekt has perfect vision, and mixes like this are the perfect way to educate listeners, make them move and innovate a little in the process.
