Hey RC!!..  i was watching this on youtube when you uploaded it, don't think i left a comment, but sounds so different when not watching the video, kinda scary....  bit like those mysterious sounds that came from the atmosphere over Russia not so long ago

you made a really nice piece with this experiment, using contrast and blending, volume controlling....(some of it is naturally occurring I bet, but some you made too?)

this is me playing piano

not a real piano, I do not have one

I decided to take the Spitfire Audio Oliver Patrice Weder sample library out for a spin

then in REAPER, with the help of some friends on the unoffical REAPER discord, I discovered a handy MIDI note filter, which I set up in the d# pentatonic minor scale... all the black notes

that saved me the task of going through the MIDI items to delete duff notes, although there are still some duff notes but only because they are too close together

the MIDI items were not quantised or post processed, so this is an as is warts and all recording of a live performance

and, yes, it is thirty minutes long... I felt that I had to put some kind of limit on it hahahaha

I might take bits and pieces from this take to make something more betterer in the future

We Are Not Here On Purpose, But We Are Not Accidents

assembled and recorded a noise generator:  metal containers, filled with hot water, generate these sounds when put on dry ice.

Metal objects screeching and screaming when coming into contact with dry ice is more or less common knowledge, but I experimented a bit to make these usually short noises last longer, this is the result.
The occasional cracking noises come from ice crystals that pop up at the bottom of the container.

In Hour 2 we hand over to Berlin-based composer, producer and sound designer, Ben Lukas Boysen who released his album 'Spell' in June, mixed and mastered by friend and fellow Erased Tapes artist Nils Frahm. Music featured includes Pink Floyd, Kurt Stenzel, Demdike Stare, Hans Otte, Nina Simone and Ryoji Ikeda, and he had this to say about his mix;
