The Mother of Mars remix EP is out today! Six brand new versions that pull the epic kosmische drift of 'Seed 2 Sky' into strange new shapes. Here's a remix from the mysterious Leaf, who teases the track out into a two part psychedelic epic. Opening with dreamy washes of sound and live drums that build to a euphoric crescendo, everything falls away to reveal a bassy electro jam, with rhythmic pulses like a robotic heartbeat.

Leaf is the not-so-imaginative stage name of London-based musician and sound engineer Leaf Troup.

Despite having spent the best part of 20 years immersed in music, Leaf’s debut release only came as recently as 2018, when he was asked to remix Mother of Mars (Vito & Druzzi from The Rapture) for Ransom Note Records. The enthusiastic reaction to his celestial krautrock version of ‘Seed 2 Sky’ convinced him that the world was ready to hear more of his music meanderings.

Fighting the modern urge to pump product into the marketplace, Leaf has kept an unhurried release schedule, providing remixes for the likes of Bawrut, Marlon Hoffstadt, and Glok (the electronic project from Andy Bell of Ride).

And in characteristically unhurried fashion, Leafs first solo offering is currently on the work bench being tinkered with and readied for prime time. When it finally arrives, expect the sound of Martin Hannett let loose in the studio with Tangerine Dream and you’ll be halfway there. 

In the 2000s, Leaf was part of the DJ collective that ran London’s beloved Fear Of Music and Stop Making Sense nights, hosting everyone from Death from Above 1979 and Klaxons to Bush Tetras and Gang of Four. He also moonlighted in a band called Maus that would almost certainly have been bigger than Happy Mondays if the drummer had ever turned up to any of their gigs. Oh, and he once pressed the play button for David Guetta at the MTV Awards.
