Started in november 2019, État Limite is a dark disco project run by Thomas Pietrois-Chabassier (production, writing) and Baptiste Bertrand (music). 

Thomas Pietrois-Chabassier is a writer and a journalist for television, former DJ, lives in Paris. 

Baptiste Bertrand acts under the name of Zus and is a musician for Saigon Blue rain, lives in Paris.

L’Amour n’existera plus is their first collaboration together. The album includes 7 tracks and 5 remixes by The Populists, La Mverte, Zombies in Miami and Tagliabue. There will be another EP with new remixes by Mike Simonetti, Black Devil Disco Club, Plaisir de France, Les Clopes, Automelodi, Etienne Jaumet, and some others.

At just under eight minutes the intriguingly named Zillas on Acid Ultramodern Heartbreaker mix comes in at around 110 bpm, kicking off like a pitched down long lost track off Spooky’s seminal 93 album, Gargantuan. Then at the 1.45 mark all hell breaks loose, a swirling throbbing acid line filters in and grabs you by the scruff of the neck, taking you on a hedonistic squelching trip until finally letting go, just when you’re begging for more in the final minute of the track. 

Your trip is intermittently interrupted by a wigged out vox sample ‘I’m Sorry’ like almost apologising for messing with your head in its peaked out state.

The drum track provides a backdrop to the acid lead, keeping you in check with rolling rides, shuffling snares and a steady kick. 

This monster mix of Love Interlude is out today on digital release.

Timothy’s music has brought us many special moments over the past few summers and seems bound to do so again, with the new EP already getting played by the likes of Optimo, Lena Willikens and Andrew Weatherall.

After cutting his teeth as one half of Eskimo Twins, Clerkin launched his solo career in 2014 under the now-retired Heretic moniker. Having released on labels including Throne of Blood, Hard Fist and Tusk Wax, he’s since graduated to running his own Insult To Injury imprint from his new base in Amsterdam.

Featuring an interesting selection of artists from all over the world, such as Jokios Kultūros, Kolomensky, Tassilo Vanhöfen, Facets, Fabio Me Llaman Soltero (SXDNS187), Neud Photo, Anastasia Zems (SXDNS169), Anatolian Weapons, Volta Cab, Wolfstream, and A-Tweed (SXDNS222), just to name a few, the release invites you to this true musical trip through the depths of this mesmerising concoction of sonorities. 

We have the privilege of reviewing the contribution of one of our favourite producers: Ukrainian Volta Cab, currently based in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is acclaimed not only for his productions but also his live sets. His many an influence allows him to competently flirt with several music genres. This time, he decided to go for something more cosmic and trippier. The melodic bell-like lead allied with the atmospheric pads and the arpeggiated synth layer provided a hell of a theme, definitely one of the highlights of the compilation.  

We finish the review with a beautiful message from the label team: “We really hope you enjoyed this musical trip through different parts of our magical planet. While we’re stuck inside during this crazy pandemic, we wish our music has helped you to escape, at least in your mind and soul. Stay healthy and stay alive!”
