The critically acclaimed "Dell'universo assente" has finally made available again in a stunning double-LP and CD edition. The complete works composed by the legendary Neapolitan composer and musician are now digitally restored and include a striking piano recordings of some additional inediteded pieces transcribed and played by the composer Girolamo De Simone, curator of the edition and acclaimed interpreter, who is also the main responsible for the rediscovery of the work of Luciano Cilio.
Dell' Universo Assente, originally released by Die Schachtel in 2007 and sold out in a few months, represents a truly unique approach to music making where each instrument and each sound are given ample time and space to develop. For the recording sessions leading to this remarkable work Cilio took up a role as multi-instrumentalist, performing on piano, guitar, flute, bass and mandola, also joined by musicians coming from different experiences and areas, who supply strings, extra woodwind and percussion. Almost impossible to define, the all-acoustic music of Cilio occupies a space between the devotional music of Popol Vuh's Florian Fricke and the deep spiritual places of what would later be called holy minimalism (without any of the religious intents of the afore-mentioned references), with a surprising anticipation of the crystalline sparseness of pieces like "Fur Alina" by Arvo Part, and a feeling of intense suspension of time that can be associated to some of the most intimate compositions of Ligeti or Morton Feldman, yet maintaining a definite position outside the contemporary music of serial and academic inspiration. "These recordings sound as they feel self contained, introspective, and determined, you can feel in the music a sort of necessity that can be rarely found, as in Bill Fay's "Time of the Last Persecution", or in Nick Drake's "Pink Moon": this enormous weight that is bearing on it's creators, the absolute need to exorcize it from their lives, a moment in time where you are invited to hear artists truly in contact with their existence. Luciano Cilio holds that moment in time, an authentic emotional testament, something to be cherished" has written Jim O'Rourke in his inspiring liner notes.

Born in Naples in 1950, Luciano Cilio has joined his university studies in architecture and scenography to music, collaborating in the 60s and '70s with several non-conventional musicians (as Alan Sorrenti and Shawn Phillips) developing surprising intuitions about the relationship between gesture, words and music. Sitar and guitar virtuoso, excellent pianist, Luciano Cilio was "essentially self-taught concerning the music composition", and focused his research on long sustained sounds, on the sound in its primary and internal meaning, at the outset on the melodic, rhythmic and harmonic entities, to "re-enter the sound, hold it, hold it... and finally let it go.
His short yet intense career officially begun in 1977 with the publication of a full-length album titled "Dialoghi del presente" (entirely included in this release along with extra tracks), composed between the end of the '60s and early '70s. The album, released in 1977, went almost unnoticed and was soon forgotten, and that influenced deeply the complex personality of the composer. Unexpectedly, in 1983, he committed suicide, leaving this unique gem as a testimony of a genius' work.

This record is not just a collection of musical pictures, but a large canvas painted with the air it was made in, like a private room never to be visited again, but remembered vividly when something like the way light hits a room or the smell of damp cinders brings it all back with overwhelming vividness. Known amongst a small group of teenage friends as T.R.A.S.E (Tape Recorder And Synthesiser Ensemble) this previously unearthed and fully formed electronic music project was spearheaded by a 16-year-old schoolboy as an extension of his woodwork, metalwork and science classes in 1981.

Composed and recorded using a self-made synth, audio mixer and electronic percussion units T.R.A.S.E would bridge the gap between a love for sci-fi horror soundtracks, Gary Numan b-sides and an extra curricular hobby as a sound and lighting designer for school plays – bequeathing a backstory as unique and unfathomable as the individualistic sonic results that he would finally commit to C90. Having successfully recorded his only solo album, Electronic Rock (which was never duplicated beyond his own demo copy), this early musical achievement by Andy Popplewell stands up as a rare self-initiated example of embryonic experimental electro pop and genuine outsider music, marking the early domestication of synthesisers and the dawn of electronic home recording studios and the uninhibited results. Unhindered by adult concepts like self-consciousness, popular snobbery, fashion, pride and fear of failure (while funded by paper rounds and odd jobs in his Mancunian community), Andy, armed with the plans to the Chorosynth kit module, an old junk shop piano keyboard and some hand-me-down tools from his recently deceased dad, would fill an exercise book with plans, arrangements and self-penned new wave pop lyrics to fully realise the potential of his one-man synthetic symphony. Reaping the benefits of his own stencilled circuit boards and soldering iron skills (whilst occasionally enlisting the part time help of his younger brother on guitar) T.R.A.S.E’s homemade technology pop continued to bloom right up until the very cusp of adolescence when careers officers and real life responsi- bilities saw the end of Andy’s reel to reel multitracking which is finally pre- sented here for the first time since it was sung and played. This ambitious cross section of robotic funk and moody soundscape sequences makes instrumental nods to John Carpenter and Kraftwerk next to unpolished vocal drones worthy of a sedated Human League or Joy Divison, all of whom shared radio dial digits amongst Giorgio Moroder, Tubeway Army and The Glitter Band as Popplewell’s clearest unabashed influences.

The T.R.A.S.E tapes, finally unearthed by Finders Keepers, show the full extent of the projects repertoire before the “group’s” final hiatus which, for Andy, was followed by a working education in London under BBC employ- ment as a trainee radio engineer (not far from the closed door of the Radiophonic Workshop) which has since led to a widespread reputation as one of the country’s leading independent tape engineers/editors/archivists indiscriminately splicing and baking vintage tapes for anyone in-between Alpha in Brussels and ZTT in London. Having worked with hundreds of reputable studios, pop stars and media companies throughout his career Andy claims he has rarely been asked about his own musical history in 30 working years, Finders Keepers are glad we Popped that very question.

after their successful ep collapsed (r-n116) the bristol based project strikes back with a full length album on raster-noton. once more james ginzburg & paul purgas challenge the perceptual boundaries between noise and music and the potential for both technology and architecture to embed and codify themselves within sound.

recur is presented as emptyset’s third studio album, continuing on from their work with demiurge. the material examines the central themes of time, structure and recursion, through the analysis of scale and the interaction of both formal and fractured sonics. the album furthers the project’s exploration of rhythm, dislocation and feedback within the framework of full frequency sound, structural abstraction and analogue processing. the work examines how notions of time interact with both experience and form, and the resulting modes through which this affects sound through compression and rarefaction and the forcing of signal thresholds to their critical point.

ABANDON play an original blend of Slow-Core/Post-Rock music mixing in Ambient Music to superb effect.

ABANDON have just released their latest superb release – Monsters. A 7 song 50 minute release which has new tracks and tracks remixed by different artists.

This album is a truly wonderful experience to listen to. An album full of haunting Slow-Core/Post-Rock tunes with some top-notch ambient sounds thrown in for great measure.

ABANDON is a band I knew very little about before this outstanding release. The S/T track is simply of one of the finest Post-Rock tracks I have listened to this year. An 8 minute epic that will have you begging for more. There is also an outstanding remix of this track included as well that blew me away. Same track but with a slightly different vibe to set it apart from its predecessor.

Highly recommended as both releases are superb as well.

ABANDON are masters of blending the different genres. Yes the music is slow and some might feel it never goes anywhere. But that is not the point. The music is there to tell part of a story with the haunting vocals and lyrics providing a truly unique listening experience.

These guys do follow the same path as ISIS but ABANDON are more based in Post-Rock than Post-Metal. Both playing top-notch lengthy epic tracks that make you think to what you’re listening to.

Production is superb on this great release. You can hear every note played and sung brilliantly.
