One of electronic music's true daddies steps up.

Heavily influenced by Aphex Twin, who went on to become his labelmate at Warp, Tom 'Squarepusher' Jenkinson had an experimental approach to bass guitar - both at school, and then later in teenage metal bands - which he applied to electronic music, releasing his debut record, Stereotype (under the name Stereotype) in 1994. After a series of records on Spymania, Jenkinson landed on Warp's roster in 1995, and became part of the label's stable of 1990s titans with Aphex, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Plaid et al.

The 20 years since have seen Squarepusher tear up the templates of jazz, drum'n'bass, psychedelia, techno and more across over 15 albums, while also developing one of the most talked-about live shows on the electronic circuit. Last year, the Squarepusher project reached a logical climax of sorts when Jenkinson released an EP, Music for Robots, that was written by him but performed by a trio of Z-Machine robots (including a 77-fingered guitarist and a 22-armed drummer). That hasn't, of course, stopped him: this month he released his latest album, Damogen Furies. 

For Squarepusher's FACT mix, he looks way back, at the rave music from the turn of the 1990s that not only inspired him, but many of his contemporaries. This is Squarepusher presents Shut Up And Dance, 1990-1992, and it's rude as fuck.

Making their triumphant return to The Armory Podcast, we're thrilled to welcome back our good pals Keith MacKenzie & DJ Fixx. Press play. Get down. 

Keith MacKenzie has emerged as one of the driving forces behind the global breakbeat scene, regularly gigging across the US and Europe. Now based in Chicago, Keith spent his formative years in the now legendary Florida rave scene racking up early credits on influential labels like DJ Icey's Zone Records and After Dark before launching his own label. Illeven:Eleven Recordings, now in its 11th year of operations, built a reputation for releasing quality collaborations from a diverse roster of artists (Audiostalkers, Deekline & Ed Solo, Fixx, Infiniti, Bass Kleph, Gigi Barocco, Rico Tubbs, Sporty-O, Sue Cho and Whiskey Pete have all released on the label) making it a Beatport mainstay in the process. Under the informal moniker of KMFX alongside Fixx he's gone on to release internationally on labels like Deekline's Rat Records, as well as Punks, the venerable UK imprint formed by breakbeat stalwarts Stanton Warriors.

In 2012 Keith teamed up with long time creative collaborators Fixx and D:RC to form Smookie Illson, a new bass music alias for studio experiments that fall outside the rather strict umbrella of breakbeat music. After trying their hand at everything from electro house to moombahton (signing their first demos to Potty Mouth Music in the process) they found their footing in the EDM "trap" scene, churning out bootlegs and originals at a brisk pace and gaining steady support from fans and peers alike. Their 2013 bootleg remix of Yo Majesty's 'Club Action' turned into one of the longest-running festival season selections, gaining support year after year from scene favorites like Skrillex & Diplo, Baauer, RL Grime, Brillz, and Loudpvck. 2015 saw Smookie Illson releasing their 'Compound Riddims EP' a highly-rated collab with the UK's Ragga Twins on Play Me Records, as well as releases on Seattle's Simplify Records and Australia's Safari Music.

Over the past 15 years, breakbeat pioneer DJ Fixx has been stocking the shelves of record stores everywhere. Said by many as one of the most innovative and consistent producers in the industry, he continues to deliver some of the most sought after breakbeat tracks available. Making his debut in 1998, Fixx produced over 75 anthems on the classic Kaleidoscope Music label. Many of these timeless tracks are still played frequently today. This was then followed by Fixx's own personal imprint, Bottom-End Records (2004-2008). Managed by Afterdark, the BER trademark produced some of the biggest anthems in the industry, easily claiming the spot of one of the top five best-selling domestic labels in the country. Alongside of Keith MacKenzie, Fixx is currently a leading producer for Keith's illeven:eleven label. Frequent solo installments can be found on ILL, as well as collaborations with Keith under the production duo 'KMFX'. With over 150 12-inch releases, over 300 exclusive digital releases, and twelve massively-distributed CDs under his belt, Fixx has assembled one impressive Discography. All of this resulting in one of the strongest and most loyal followings in the industry.

You'll be hard pushed to find anyone else on the ward this year who has delivered more music to us than, Simon Shackleton. His legendary mammoth sets have kept many ears entertained over the last twelve months. From his, One Series sets in London, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco, which have seen him play anywhere from four to seven hours, right up to him playing at the party of all parties, Burning Man, where he managed an incredible nine hour set. If you like your music a little deeper, full of groove, with a slight edge to it and packed with heart and soul, Simon's mixes will simply blow your mind!

Not only do you have many hours of music to listen to now, but we have for you posted above, this exclusive remaster from, Simon, as our advent day giveaway #23. 'Angelhead' is a slice of Techno that mirrors the kind of music you find in his sets perfectly. The groove is there, it's grabs on the heartstrings and the force that lies within is strong! For those not familiar with the Tempest, he is a french DJ and producer based in Nantes, member of LOT49 and manager of his own label CClone Records.

Finding freedom in music he was lulled by rock and roll & blues as a young 'un progressing to techno sounds in the nineties where he found his real passion - djng at clubs and free parties.

Guess what came next .... he began to make is own beats! After various projects and aliases, Beat Tempest was born with his breakbeat, techno, techfunk sounds that we all know and love.

In 2013 he created his own label - CClone and by 2014 he was signed to the mighty LOT49.

And so ladies and gentlemen - we introduce to you his advent track - Santa Claus Breaker. A gritty breakbeat banger with balls!! Very heavy indeed...

It’s been another action packed year for, Phil Wrighton aka WheresNorth?. He has delighted festival crowds dj-ing throughout the summer and he’s also been bringing some of the best underground talent to his always bouncing ‘DuskTilDawn‘ nights in, Sheffield. Stanton Warriors, Mooqee, Mafia Kiss, Deekline and Utah Saints are just a few to visit the ‘Steel City’ this last year and the party continues up north as ‘DuskTilDawn’ celebrates it’s third birthday on 30th January with a jaw dropper of a lineup. As an extra bonus this Christmas eve we have second mix to get those parties rocking! This one comes from, Colin and Jon aka, Krossbow. These guys met ten years ago through a love for the broken beat and because of that, Krossbow, was formed. The music in their mix represents the tunes they were both raving to back in the day. So as you might guess, this mix takes on 'classic Breaks' stance. The mix itself was recorded at the, Wilkestock festival, back in September and was to be their last festival set together as, Jon has packed up and moved to Australia. The tracklist was specifically chosen to celebrate their ten year friendship and such has been there success over the last decade, several of the artist included in the mix have found themselves supported by the mighty, Krossbow. Definitely one of those 'full circle' deals in full effect!

Fear not fans of, Krossbow! Even though, Jon has moved to Australia they guys still plan to keep working together which is great news all round I'm sure you will agree. The only thing that's left to do is set your music device volume to 'max' and get on it guys and gals!

Getting the party started on this Christmas Eve, Mary is a peak time player delivering a peak time set. Expect groovy, bass- laden electro and dirty house bombs a plenty folks.

Her unique style and infectious energy behind the decks have seen her take 2015 by storm playing gigs and festivals all over the country such as Glade, Waveform, Sunrise, Secret Garden Party and Boomtown fair. As if that isn't enough, she has recently dipped her toe in the music production pool collaborating with Datamass and Mr Mirra plus did you know Mary has also got a fantastic voice? Putting her talents to good use in the studio she has teamed up with Atomic Drop, on their forthcoming release on Bazooka records,'Inside my head'.

Expect big things from this elfin featured mistress in 2016!

Advent Day #24 (Part 1) – Mary Miss Fairy (Download link in description)

Be warned! A very eclectic mix from Yorkshire has landed! Residing in Harrogate, Rory Hoy DJ’s and produces at a level way above his years. Despite covering possibly every genre EVER, this mix is still bang tidy and each track compliments the next perfectly.

With many other talents such as film making, it is no surprise he won the Winner of the Yorkshire Young Achiever of the Year Award 2012 and and has received praise from artists such as Fatboy Slim, Craig Charles, Mr Scruff, DJ Cam, Fake Blood, among others.
