One of electronic music's true daddies steps up.

Heavily influenced by Aphex Twin, who went on to become his labelmate at Warp, Tom 'Squarepusher' Jenkinson had an experimental approach to bass guitar - both at school, and then later in teenage metal bands - which he applied to electronic music, releasing his debut record, Stereotype (under the name Stereotype) in 1994. After a series of records on Spymania, Jenkinson landed on Warp's roster in 1995, and became part of the label's stable of 1990s titans with Aphex, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Plaid et al.

The 20 years since have seen Squarepusher tear up the templates of jazz, drum'n'bass, psychedelia, techno and more across over 15 albums, while also developing one of the most talked-about live shows on the electronic circuit. Last year, the Squarepusher project reached a logical climax of sorts when Jenkinson released an EP, Music for Robots, that was written by him but performed by a trio of Z-Machine robots (including a 77-fingered guitarist and a 22-armed drummer). That hasn't, of course, stopped him: this month he released his latest album, Damogen Furies. 

For Squarepusher's FACT mix, he looks way back, at the rave music from the turn of the 1990s that not only inspired him, but many of his contemporaries. This is Squarepusher presents Shut Up And Dance, 1990-1992, and it's rude as fuck.

Keith MacKenzie has emerged as one of the driving forces behind the global breakbeat scene, regularly gigging across the US and Europe. Now based in Chicago, Keith spent his formative years in the now legendary Florida rave scene racking up early credits on influential labels like DJ Icey's Zone Records and After Dark before launching his own label. Illeven:Eleven Recordings, now in its 11th year of operations, built a reputation for releasing quality collaborations from a diverse roster of artists (Audiostalkers, Deekline & Ed Solo, Fixx, Infiniti, Bass Kleph, Gigi Barocco, Rico Tubbs, Sporty-O, Sue Cho and Whiskey Pete have all released on the label) making it a Beatport mainstay in the process. Under the informal moniker of KMFX alongside Fixx he's gone on to release internationally on labels like Deekline's Rat Records, as well as Punks, the venerable UK imprint formed by breakbeat stalwarts Stanton Warriors.

In 2012 Keith teamed up with long time creative collaborators Fixx and D:RC to form Smookie Illson, a new bass music alias for studio experiments that fall outside the rather strict umbrella of breakbeat music. After trying their hand at everything from electro house to moombahton (signing their first demos to Potty Mouth Music in the process) they found their footing in the EDM "trap" scene, churning out bootlegs and originals at a brisk pace and gaining steady support from fans and peers alike. Their 2013 bootleg remix of Yo Majesty's 'Club Action' turned into one of the longest-running festival season selections, gaining support year after year from scene favorites like Skrillex & Diplo, Baauer, RL Grime, Brillz, and Loudpvck. 2015 saw Smookie Illson releasing their 'Compound Riddims EP' a highly-rated collab with the UK's Ragga Twins on Play Me Records, as well as releases on Seattle's Simplify Records and Australia's Safari Music.

Over the past 15 years, breakbeat pioneer DJ Fixx has been stocking the shelves of record stores everywhere. Said by many as one of the most innovative and consistent producers in the industry, he continues to deliver some of the most sought after breakbeat tracks available. Making his debut in 1998, Fixx produced over 75 anthems on the classic Kaleidoscope Music label. Many of these timeless tracks are still played frequently today. This was then followed by Fixx's own personal imprint, Bottom-End Records (2004-2008). Managed by Afterdark, the BER trademark produced some of the biggest anthems in the industry, easily claiming the spot of one of the top five best-selling domestic labels in the country. Alongside of Keith MacKenzie, Fixx is currently a leading producer for Keith's illeven:eleven label. Frequent solo installments can be found on ILL, as well as collaborations with Keith under the production duo 'KMFX'. With over 150 12-inch releases, over 300 exclusive digital releases, and twelve massively-distributed CDs under his belt, Fixx has assembled one impressive Discography. All of this resulting in one of the strongest and most loyal followings in the industry.

You'll be hard pushed to find anyone else on the ward this year who has delivered more music to us than, Simon Shackleton. His legendary mammoth sets have kept many ears entertained over the last twelve months. From his, One Series sets in London, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco, which have seen him play anywhere from four to seven hours, right up to him playing at the party of all parties, Burning Man, where he managed an incredible nine hour set. If you like your music a little deeper, full of groove, with a slight edge to it and packed with heart and soul, Simon's mixes will simply blow your mind!

'Angelhead' is a slice of Techno that mirrors the kind of music you find in his sets perfectly. The groove is there, it's grabs on the heartstrings and the force that lies within is strong! As an extra bonus this Christmas eve we have second mix to get those parties rocking! This one comes from, Colin and Jon aka, Krossbow. These guys met ten years ago through a love for the broken beat and because of that, Krossbow, was formed. The music in their mix represents the tunes they were both raving to back in the day. So as you might guess, this mix takes on 'classic Breaks' stance. The mix itself was recorded at the, Wilkestock festival, back in September and was to be their last festival set together as, Jon has packed up and moved to Australia. The tracklist was specifically chosen to celebrate their ten year friendship and such has been there success over the last decade, several of the artist included in the mix have found themselves supported by the mighty, Krossbow. Definitely one of those 'full circle' deals in full effect!

Fear not fans of, Krossbow! Even though, Jon has moved to Australia they guys still plan to keep working together which is great news all round I'm sure you will agree. The only thing that's left to do is set your music device volume to 'max' and get on it guys and gals!

As if that isn't enough, she has recently dipped her toe in the music production pool collaborating with Datamass and Mr Mirra plus did you know Mary has also got a fantastic voice? "Matasuna Records" kicks off 2021 with another 7inch. This record features two remixes by German DJ and producer "David Hanke" aka "Renegades Of Jazz", for Afro-latin Funk bands "Brownout" and "Jungle Fire". Brownout's remix was first released in 2013 via Paris DJs on a very limited run of 45s and quickly became very sought after. By painstakingly cutting every instrument's individual notes, increasing the tempo and adding in a punchy breakbeat at the end, David turned "Flaximus" into an up-tempo dancefloor hit.

Jungle FIre's song "Comencemos" that appears on the B side is a cover version of Fela Ransome-Kuti's song "Let's Start".David added some more Afrofunk elements to the Jungle Fire version and builds a bridge to the original Fela version with the additional elements. The Jungle Fire remix is previously unreleased and will be available on vinyl for the first time.

"David Hanke" has been linked to "Matasuna Records" since our early days, when he released his "Dem Juju Poets" debut album on Matasuna in 2017. Most recently he delivered a dancefloor-friendly edit of "Mawuli Decker's" "Mololi-Lomko" at the end of 2020, again released on Matasuna. David is constantly producing and surprises regularly with new musical projects, restlessly trying to develop and refine his sound. With his new label, "Bathurst", he created a home for all his electronic music projects. Bathurst follows the notion of not focusing on any formats or genres, but caring more about the electronic music Hanke adores.

Nine-piece band "Brownout" from Austin/Texas, was formed in 2005 by members of the Grammy Award-winning Latin orchestra "Grupo Fantasma" and have since become a musical force of their own. In addition to three Austin Music Awards, the band has performed at countless events and festivals and has regularly toured the U.S. also as highly sought-after backing band for artists like Prince, GZA and many more. Their albums and singles have been released on labels like "Freestyle Records", "Ubiquity" or "Fat Beats".

"Jungle Fire" is an Afrolatin Funk band from Los Angeles known for their authentic and highly explosive sound. They quickly gained attention of the local Los Angeles scene and beyond, which led to their first release on the Funk and Soul label "Colemine". Other releases have been released on "Nacional Records", "Paris DJs" and "Razor N Tape". Their second album "Jambú" debuted at #4 on the Billboard Latin charts in February 2017 which led to numerous features in several movies, commercials and TV shows. They create a unique Afro-Tropical sound by combining West African rhythms with heavy funk elements.
