After three years, UrbnMowgli resurfaces with his EP on his own imprint, Emotional Voyage. With ‘Ancient Knowledge Transmission’ he fuses cascading drum machine rhythms with rapid-fire basslines, acidic sequences, whimsical leads and chopped sample bits to create otherworldly rave relics. A solid blend from video game characteristics to shaking club rhythms.

The four-track EP drifts between moody Lynchian atmospheres and menacing beat drops. More than tracks, these are playful yet meticulous journeys, sculpted with wide spatial depth, teleporting the listener into futuristic electro breakbeat. This production definitely got all dust off the synths and shows once more his versatility of UrbnMowgli’s hybrid approach inviting you into a realm of internal imagery.

Basement Freaks is the brainchild of Giorgos Fotiadis and he is all about everything that is funky. Founded back in 2006 this mix is from a couple of years later and was specially made as a promotional item for Goodgroove Records an outlet from which he released music and regularly played gigs for. Basement Freaks has 4 albums to his name with various EP's and remixes, of late he has been releasing a bunch of sample packs for Black Octopus as well as still touring and playing his style of Funk music to the masses.

Matt Goddard aka Dopamine is an Australian born artist who rose to fame by winning Best Single with the anthem of a track called "Hold You" at the Breakspoll awards in 2006. He was also co-owner of Title Fight records with Klaus "Heavyweight" Hill a now defunct label. While not always producing breakbeat music Dopamine moved onto house, minimal and tech releases with which he still produces today.

As we pass the halfway point of our advent giveaway of music, we head down under to catch up with New Zealand based Brit Hexadecimal for day 13.

His offering is a classic Breaks set that was recorded live back in November when his Global Breaks Festival took place over on Twitch. The online party brought the Breakbeat family together for 2 whole days of fun and bass with DJs stepping up one after another to keep the party vibes flowing. Hexadecimal's set sees him select some of his personal favourites from the world of Breakbeat and as you're about to hear, they're the kind of Breakbeat tunes all of us die-hard fans love to listen to! Because the set has been recorded from Twitch, you will hear a bit of chat from Hexadecimal throughout, but that is the way of things these days with many DJs choosing to connect with their fans and followers who religiously turn up in the chatroom to support them while they entertain us.

Ruthie’s free download picks series started back in 2016. The original idea was to save cash to buy DJ hardware during the move to digital, whilst building up a new music collection.
2020 did not go to plan. Ruthie has learned that DJ controllers have loop features, meaning that vocalists, professional brass players and many other friends can more easily join in the jam and fun. Down the rabbit hole we go.
