Welcome one and all to advent 2023! Yes it’s that time of year again where LSM main man Sid and resident artist Fifties put their heads together and bring you a free track or dj mix everyday in the run up to Christmas. Expect funk, breaks, techno, bass and everything in-between. Some artists you will definitely know … others you may not but that’s what the blog is all about right?

Kicking things off, this chap needs no introduction. Yes, its our friend Lebrosk. Having hosted his podcast for over a year now, he is defiantly part of the furniture here at LSM Towers. Bringing the funk on his cheeky bootleg of DJ Spun Vs GF&TF5’s Superappin’. … what a way to kick off our musical calendar!

Advent Day 2, and what a treat we have for you! Tank Your Head is the brand-new double bass-driven and horn-heavy Big Beat mashup from Dave Bushnell, aka Crash Party. Fattening up the theme tune to the cult Anime series Cowboy Bebop with frantic and high-energy drums, Dave drops in a bit of Basement Jaxx to leave you wondering where your head's at! Just like all of his mashups, this one has been created for the party, so grab your copy free from the player above and be sure to play it there.

Day 3 sees Holocene take to the stage! You may also know this talented chap from Cornwall as Cakeboy AKA Paul Croley. Collaborating on tracks with with Memphis based vocalist Annie Freres, this latest venture takes things away from the dancefloor and more towards a melodic and emotive sound.

It’s double or nothing with this sonic-boom-busting, minimal-breaks bruiser. You gonna boom, shake, shake, shake the room with Mr No Hands sub-laden reworking of the Poker Flat Recordings classic Chardronnet vs Afrilounge - Shake It. 

Now slightly less “minimal”, this overhaul was sampled from the original vinyl release. You can hear the crackles and pops caused by years of heavy rotation because it’s one of his all-time favourite tunes that's lived in his infamous Technics camo record box for over 15 years.

Advent Day 25: Chardronnet vs Afrilounge - Shake It (Mr No Hands Sub-Edit)

Diesel Recordings no. 339 is here, and with it comes Prato! The long-time label friend hits us with a two-tracker not to be missed. First up is 'Ishmel'; a solid, techy groover with dark and quirky vibes. Watch out for the classic 'Ultimate' sample! Next up is 'Wildstyle'; a familiar Prato groove with signature arpeggiated synths and lush soundscapes. The drums on this alone will move your behind, paired with solid sound design and a choice, classic vocal cut no dancefloor will be able to stay still!

The 3rd release on PataNegra Records. 'Nightmare' is the new collab of Vazteria X & Staxia after many years. Thoses colossus of the Breakbeat scene are dropping you an adaptation of the typical horror 90 series.

For those not familiar with the Tempest, he is a french DJ and producer based in Nantes, member of LOT49 and manager of his own label CClone Records.

Finding freedom in music he was lulled by rock and roll & blues as a young 'un progressing to techno sounds in the nineties where he found his real passion - djng at clubs and free parties.

Guess what came next .... he began to make is own beats! After various projects and aliases, Beat Tempest was born with his breakbeat, techno, techfunk sounds that we all know and love.

In 2013 he created his own label - CClone and by 2014 he was signed to the mighty LOT49.

And so ladies and gentlemen - we introduce to you his advent track - Santa Claus Breaker. A gritty breakbeat banger with balls!! Very heavy indeed...

It’s been another action packed year for, Phil Wrighton aka WheresNorth?. He has delighted festival crowds dj-ing throughout the summer and he’s also been bringing some of the best underground talent to his always bouncing ‘DuskTilDawn‘ nights in, Sheffield. Stanton Warriors, Mooqee, Mafia Kiss, Deekline and Utah Saints are just a few to visit the ‘Steel City’ this last year and the party continues up north as ‘DuskTilDawn’ celebrates it’s third birthday on 30th January with a jaw dropper of a lineup. Skapes, Dub Pistols (dj set) and Phil Hartnoll/ Orbital (dj set) are all on the bill and if this excites you get all the info HERE.

As well as dj-ing and scouting for top quality artists, Phil, can always be found producing some cracking work of his own and his brand new track ‘Reverse’ is our second exclusive in our Advent Calendar giveaway! ‘Reverse’ is all abut the old skool vibes. Dirty basslines and raw broken beats is what’s going down here and culminates in being a ravers ticket to paradise! Throw your hands in the air ladies and gents, WheresNorth?, is in town!
