Throwback Thursday! #8 in our calendar sees me rewinding to over ten years ago. I think this is probably the third mixtape i ever made. It was the era of myspace and  i had it on my page for people to download and listen to. No Soundcloud then folks! I used a little site called mix.dj.

Back then I was only able to do about 4 demos a year due to the price of buying records. It got a lot of praise from my piers so I decided to send it into iDJ (now no longer in publication) for their Raw Talent Competition and it got featured! With so much encouragement I graduated from the bedroom to the club and got my first gig - as they say ... the rest is history!

We last brought you music from Bristol based, Simon Lloyd, quite some time ago in one of our 'LSM's 10 Mixes For The Weekend' blog posts. Simon and I had chatted about him doing an exclusive mix for us but with one thing and another it never came about, so what better time to share his sounds with you all than by having him feature on day number 12 of our advent calendar.

Simon's cultured taste in music with a groove, has landed him a residency at the fashion store, Harvey Nichols, and one of Bristol's coolest night spots, No.24. He's also played Glastonbury for the last 2 years, Grassroots Festival and the very cool, Shindig Weekender festival and it's the Shindig connection that leads us on to his mix he's sent over to us that was recorded at the 'Shindig Weekender Blockparty', that was held just a couple of weeks ago. 

On the night, Simon was warming up for the legendary, Justin Robertson and as your about to hear, he done that perfectly. His sublime one hour set is full to the brim with ultra cool House music that takes off on a rather deep and delicious note that leads on to a tripped out snippet of acid. From there on out, it's all about funky and groovy House music and if you're loving what Simon has laid down in this mix, get over to his his Soundcloud page because there's even more there waiting your attention!

Advent day #18 has rolled around and for this one, here's a mix from myself. Even though I've blogged a couple of my mixes before it still feels awkward biggin' up myself, so I'm not going too. What I will happily big up though is the music that's in this mix that was recorded live at a friends private festival not too far from where I live that sits in a perfect location and is attended by some real sound folks that don't mind me turning up and playing them some tunes to dance to. In my mix you'll find some of my very favourite tunes out of my personnel collection. It kicks off with some Funky Breaks and builds up tempo as it goes which leads on to some heavier Breakbeat action around the halfway point and through to the end. If you caught our 2 previous Bernhardt posts, you would have read that his identity was being kept under wraps. That is the case no longer though as we can announce now that it is the new alias of the bearded Techno warrior, Hostage. His new alias of course, comes with a new sound and is one that is geared more towards creating more heat for the dance floor for the partygoers to really feed off. Bernhardt is set to hit it hard in 2017 so keep your eyes open, as this modified Techno warrior may be heading to your neck of the woods for a serious party!

Being a fairly recent convert to Techno and because I've been liking what I've been hearing from the Bernhardt side of things, I had to send out an invite for our advent calendar and as you can see, the answer was a resounding, yes! 'Oil' is the track that's been kindly sent our way and it's got the LSM HQ literally rocking! It's hard as nails yet totally hypnotic at the same time and will most definitely create a moment of euphoric pleasure when encountered on a dance floor. If your bells start jingling, there's a very good chance someone nearby has got this one maxed out!

If you followed last years LSM advent calendar, you'll know that we invited along the Breakbeat legends, Drumattic Twins, to brings us the beats to finish off our 25 days in style. For 2016, we thought we'd carry on with the legends theme and invite a couple of guys who I saw absolute smash it at this years Green Meadows Festival, to once again round off what has been another very enjoyable 25 days of music, these guys are, Utah Saints.

Tim and Jez have been there and pretty much done the lot. They've had a handful of top 10 releases, played around the world and they've supported some of the very biggest artists on the planet. We're super pleased they accepted our advent invitation and they've put together on hell of a party piece that features 12 of their very favourite tracks from 2016. If this mix wasn't already enough to liven up your Christmas day evening, we can spread further good news and announce that Utah Saints are heading back into the studio in 2017 and are planning on releasing a new batch of floor filling bangers of their own.
