5 parts, each written on a simple repeating curve, with equal
numbers of measures, existing independently until their unique
time structures meld to create interlocking patterns of twos and
threes, phasing through varying degrees of synchronicity, delicate
order held together by a web of ratios.

Atolls is for solo piccolo and twenty-nine spatialized piccolos. The  auxiliary performers surround the soloist and the audience. The pitch content is derived from the  twenty-nine most salient spectral components of a crash cymbal occurring (and analyzed) within  the shrill range of Janet Leigh's infamous scream from Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Ray Evanoff is an American composer whose work centers around detail, world building, and extended collaborations with the performers he writes for. He has worked with numerous contemporary music specialists, including most recently Ensemble Apparat, Ensemble Dal Niente, Amanda DeBoer Bartlett, Liam Hockley, Mabel Kwan, and Samuel Stoll. He is an active concert organizer and arts presenter, having curated and organized numerous events including the ANODE 2014 Festival and Symposium, the Charleston Improvised Music Festival, and MATA Interval 7.1. He is the founder, director, and editor of FOCI Arts, a contemporary arts organization and online periodical.  He studied at the College of Charleston (2002-06) and the University of Huddersfield (2008-12). His principle teachers include Quentin Baxter, Aaron Cassidy, and Steven Kazuo Takasugi. He lives in New Orleans.
