A solar day is defined as the time it takes for the Sun to return to the same position in the sky as observed from a fixed point on Earth. This rotation is the basis for the division of time into 24 hours, 60 minutes and 60 seconds.

From a simple start to a complex rhythm - this track slowly builds a complex beat from scratch - as suggested by the Disquiet Junto Project 0619.

There's no need for percussions to do this - the beat is mainly built with orchestral instruments, adding layer by layer, but electronic and other instruments also join in.

In my track https://soundcloud.com/rabmusiclab/deconstructivism-explained the process runs backwards, starting with the complete, complex rhythm and removing layer by layer to deconstruct it.

Constructivism Explained  (Disquiet0619)

Time Well Bent is a piece composed for the disquiet Junto challenge, Beat Accrual.  I used Tabla software from NI to construct the simple beat heard at the beginning of the piece which evolved into a more complex arrangement thanks to two tape-loops employed to triple the beat density offset by replay times.  The harmonium/bellows were added as some gentle guitar to finish the piece.

Strange process this one, Originally i was gonna work with https://soundcloud.com/xiiixxi/disquiet-junto-beat-accrual-disquiet0619, converting the piece into harmonic MIDI and inserting a sampler to the signal. But I wasnt happy with the results so I removed the beats and found another of last weeks submissions https://soundcloud.com/grantlucasmuller/broke-beat-disquiet0619, which complimented the strange artifacts the original concept had conjured. To this was added a subtle melodic part, mixed and mastered all in ableton

Beat Accrual Bass - With X I I I X X I (disquiet0620)

I went with carles "Disquieting Polyrhythm" for this task!
First take, improvising with SOMA Terra through HOLOGRAM Microcosm.
Listened to the result and proudly realized that it all sounds a little and a little more like Tim Hecker :)

Disquiet Junto Project 0620: Beat Accrual Accrual
The Assignment: Turn someone’s slow-build beat into a finished track.

Step 1: In the previous project, people built beats that accrue slowly over time. Familiarize yourself with the instructions at disquiet.com/0619 3.

Step 2: Several of the musicians who participated last week have allowed their tracks to be reused for this project. The majority are in this playlist. If you’d like your track from the previous project included this week, just get in touch and let me know.

Step 3: Make a new track by adding material to the track you selected from Step 2. Do as little as possible to the source track. Try to just, for the most part, add to it directly, rather than processing or editing the earlier track.

Step 1: Include “disquiet0620” (no spaces or quotation marks) in the name of your tracks.

Step 2: If your audio-hosting platform allows for tags, be sure to also include the project tag “disquiet0620” (no spaces or quotation marks). If you’re posting on SoundCloud in particular, this is essential to subsequent location of tracks for the creation of a project playlist.

Step 3: Upload your tracks. It is helpful but not essential that you use SoundCloud to host your tracks.
