But I've Got the Wings

For those of you who like to read, I have a lot to say about this one. I have lately been feeling lots of powerful emotions, good and bad. I am terrified about the political situation my country is in. I am concerned for the people of Palestine and Ukraine, and I am also worried about the rise of artificial intelligence, and what its implications are for the future of humanity. All of these things seem to culminate and exacerbate the feeling of getting older, things changing, and life itself being a temporary thing. It is a strange feeling, very powerful, but not wholly a negative one. There is beauty in the passing of time. There is beauty in change. I often feel like myself and the world I live in are on the precipice of an unknown cataclysm, and that my past and history has simply been the "calm before the storm". It is uncertain whether this will be the case of course, but many have suffered terrible fates for no apparent reason at all, and I can't help but ponder if I will meet a similar fate someday.

This song did not take me long to write. It is a culmination of all of these thoughts. To me it encapsulates a melancholy, a balance of bright and dark emotion. Perhaps those that are tormented by similar thoughts may find solace in it. The title is "0 to 100". For me, the title represents the approximate lifespan potential of a person, and the time that passes within that lifespan. It is also a reference to the idiom "it went from 0 to 100", representing the sudden end and cataclysm many have faced, and will face in their lives.

This afternoon I found myself wondering why I compose, and perhaps more specifically why I put my creations "out there".  I felt a little lost.  So I sat down at the piano, determined to reconnect with the little girl that I once was.  A little girl who used to call for her school friend....just because that friend happened to have a piano.  A little girl who sat and "played" that piano for many hours, without any real idea of what she was doing.  Just enjoying putting her hands on the keys and making patterns with sound.

The result is this little piece called "Why" and it is pretty much what I guess you would call an impromptu.  Composed in a short amount of time with minimal refinement.  It was important in this case not to self scrutinise or ask for external opinion.  Just create, enjoy........and share.

Have played with the mix a little and added a little bass at the end. I will be working to expand this into a full song with vocals.

Hi! I'm Reactre, an electronic music producer and multi-instrumentalist from Upstate NY. My influences include Techno, Breakcore, Electro, "IDM", Video Game Music, Vaporwave, Eurobeat, Synthwave, Jazz, Punk and House music.

My love for performing music began when I first started playing the drums in elementary school, but it took until high school for me to discover experimental electronic music through Radiohead's album "Kid A". From there I dove deep into the world of electronic music, discovering artists like Kettel, Arovane, EOD, and Aphex Twin.

I'm currently a full-time student studying music and audio production.

In addition to the music, I also make 3-D fractal art using a program called Mandelbulber, which is how I create the cover art for many of my songs.
