CODEX EMPIRE Boiler Room Berlin Live Set

From Another Mind first started as a South German party series but soon evolved into a fully fledged label run by SHDW & Obscure Shape. Now it operates as a label and for the fourth release, they've invited a high-profile techno squadron to remix some of their tracks.

Artists like Rødhåd, Dax J, Konstantin Sibold and Ryan James Ford have all offered up their own high-octane and emotive re-imaginings of the duo's tracks but today we feature Tale of Us & Mind Against's edit.

Their remix of 'Die Weiße Rose' is a piledriving techno behemoth, one suited for dark, dank warehouses. Its synths zap across the forefront while venomous kicks thump away in the background.

It's the sort of demonic, mutant-energy track we've come to expect from both sets of producers and we're fairly certain it's going to explode. Check it out exclusively below.

Templər is a Berlin based project started in 2016 by the French artist Thomas Chalandon. Founder/owner of the Berlin based collective and record label Area Z, Templər is also half of the Imperial Black Unit duo, together with Lapse of Reason.
After the first release on Monya's label, Corresponding Positions in 2016, he recently delivered a new EP called "Human Hate" on SΛRIN's label: X-IMG.
Between Rhythmic Noise, Industrial, Power Electronics and EBM influences, Templər wants to deliver a political message in condemning the human mistakes.
By pointing out the sad realities existing in our world, his disturbing sound aims to reflect the bad side of the human being.

Ahead of his much anticipated return to Corsica Studios with us on 28th April, we're delighted to bring you podcast #055 from VSK. He blew our minds at our November event with a powerful live performance in room one, followed by a 'lose your head' closing in room two, and we were still delighting in the effects as we locked in his return pretty much immediately after that! What draws us to this fiercely talented DJ and producer? The unique amalgamation of sound which for us stands him out - delving into a heavier, darker, often industrialised dimension through to a deeper, driving, hypnosis inducing one, across the board infused with the VSK panache he's becoming increasingly renowned for. There's no denying its exciting times for the Italian techno stallion, with his most recent EP due for release on 20th April on Tommy Four Seven's imprint, 47 - a solid statement of atomic energy depicting the power and purpose of VSK's sound and style, which he began communicating through live sets as recent as 2017.

This mix just for you, 5th Dayers, showcases the VSK prism of sound that we adore so much and only goes to fuel our excitement at the prospect of welcoming him back for another jaw-plant-the-floor live performance in a couple of weeks' time. Buckle up!

Thomas Hessler is part of a promising new generation of Techno producers & DJ’s. Born in East Germany, Hessler’s inspirations are deeply rooted in his home city of Berlin. Growing up during the time of the wall’s fall and resulting changes for Germany itself, his approach to production intends to reflect feelings of change.

Within a short time Hessler played his way from small undergound clubs of Berlin all the way to various venues in Europe, South & North America. Earning his respect in clubs like Bassiani, Fabric, Berghain and Tresor is just proving that his approach towards Djing with energy, emotions, intensive journeys of techno and its recent history is the right way to go.

Thomas has worked tirelessly to develop his craft and prove what he stands for as an artist. With his energetic, driven techno and deep melancholic electronica, informed by classic Detroit and Berlin sound yet also exploring more experimental boundaries. His debut on Marcel Fengler’s IMF was the logical next step and his „Perception EP“ gained deserved recognition from a wealth of contemporary DJs, while his contribution to IMF 004’s various artists EP von praise from Resident Advisor as a psychedelically epic strain of techno.

„Push EP“ what Soundspace described as „Dangerous rhythmic with a cinematic twist“ is just another piece in his selective list of releases on labels like Bassiani, Crossing and Intimate Silence. His art inspired Laurent Garnier to select „Perception“ for the exhibition „Electro“ at the Philharmonie de Paris in 2019 while Luke Slater remixed it in 2018 on IMF. Several releases and other special Projects are lined up for 2019.

The way Thomas Hessler comprehends our fast-paced world is nostalgic but still with a glimmer of hope for the future. Always preferring quality over quantity in his productions, patience and perfectionism are two qualities he prized over all else.

In these harder times, music with a strong feeling to it is even more critical to us. Therefore, April's podcast is mixed by the intriguing and Romanian: Aleksa Alaska (@aleksaalaska).

Even by the standards of 21st-century electronic music culture, Aleksa Alaska's rise to international DJ status has been dizzyingly rapid. After deciding in early 2016 to devote more time to recording mixes, the Bucharest-based artist has quickly become one of the most talked-about radio hosts, selectors and club DJs in Europe.

Although a passionate fan of intriguing, alternative and experimental sounds for over a decade, Aleksa (real name Alexa Chirnoaga) had little inclination to take up DJ-ing when she was younger. After growing up in a sleepy part of Northern Romania, she headed to Bucharest to study visual art (with a specialism in photography) and threw herself into the city’s party scene. As the years passed, Aleksa found that her interest in intense, eccentric and otherworldly music from the ‘90s was out of step with the “Rominimal” minimal techno scene, and a desire to do her own thing and share the music she loved grew by the year.

Before she’d even set foot in a DJ booth, Aleksa had already built up an online following. Initially, this was thanks to her YouTube channel, where she shared favourite tracks plucked from obscure 1980s electronic music releases on a weekly basis. Soon, online radio stations and websites started requesting mixes. From fast-rising Bristol outlet Noods (@noodsradio; where she hosts the Subterranean Modern show, which is dedicated to showcasing abstract electronica and dark ‘80s industrial tracks plucked from dusty & cassette-only releases) and legendary Amsterdam institution Red Light Radio (@redlightradio), to NTS (@nts_live), Rinse France (@rinse_france), Intergalactic FM (@onderwereld), LYL (@lyl_radio) and Red Bull Radio.

Yet for all of her online fame and exploration of mind-altering home listening material, it is in the clubs that Aleksa is really making her mark. Here, she focuses on the more robust, energetic and forthright end of her music collection, performing sets that join the dots between EBM, acid, electro, techno and industrial stompers.

This she naturally does with flair and distinction, working dancefloors with sets marked out by inspired selections from the past and present. It’s an approach that has led to a bulging DJ diary and appearances at well-regarded clubs and festivals in Spain, Mexico, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Study Aleksa’s list of previous and forthcoming dates and you’ll spot appearances at some legendary venues and festivals. There’s a feeling, though, that this is only the beginning for Aleksa and, spurred on by an unquenchable thirst for discovering new and overlooked music, the best is yet to come.
