For the 48th episode of our podcast series, we are honoured to release a special B2B from the two talented DJs and producers from the IO crew: MTRL and Dycide.

They decided to recreate part of their set at 'Art Bei Ton meets IO' (11.09.21), selecting their favorite tracks from each of their selection. 
Between Deep, Hypnotic and Breaky Techno sounds, this musical journey offers us a great trip into an organic and ritualistic world.

More info about MTRL:

Born in Germany, the young producer MTRL was influenced by the experimental, hypnotic and industrial sound of the german scene and it’s artists.
Many of them gave a valuable contribution to his deep and sometimes dark techno sound. Fascinated by the depths of space and inspired by the organic voices of nature, his sound reaches from atmospheric and experimental ambiences to deep and tribal grooves, influenced by the hypnotic vibes and frequencies of his environment. 
During his education in Munich, MTRL was influenced by the local scene and many of its artists gave him inspiration, contributing and developing his own style. During his experiments with noises, he gained an understanding of art in itself. Together with Dycide and Polygonia he is one of the minds behind the label IO. His various releases on labels like Lowless, Solid Shape and Agos  are played by some of the most established artists of the Hypnotic and Deep Techno scene.

Dycide is a producer / DJ, professional sound designer and visual artist from Munich / Germany. 

He is playing piano since he is 5 years old and started producing ambient music as a teenager. He established the Dycide pseudonym in 2014 to release mainly minimalistic deep drum and bass. 

Slowly he started changing more and more to techno oriented music. Meanwhile he and his close friends founded IO, an audiovisual label, focusing on experimental ambient and deep techno and visual arts. 
Besides these projects he is working as an interactive sound designer at Impulse Audio Lab, a sound design and software company based in Munich/Germany.

Younger Than Me started it’s journey as a duo back in 2016, but a couple of years ago it turned to a solo project lead by Italian Francesco Mingrino with a home base in Berlin. With critically acclaimed releases on labels like Bordello A Parigi, Amsterdam-Utrecht based platform XXX, Rotterdam’s Bar and Jennifer Cardini’s Dischi Autunno - Francesco also founded his own 90’s Wax imprint in 2017. Since then he delivered both solo EPs and collaborations with the likes of Skatebård, Francesco Farfa and Timothy Clerkin. 90’s Wax operates as a sub-label of Tusk Wax and Francesco happens to be a co-owner of the parent label as well. 

Offering a modern take on 90’s influenced progressive house, trance, EBM, breakbeat and techno - 90’s Wax pretty much defines Italian’s love for contemporary influences of club music and rave culture in general.  Having founded a new DJ and production collaboration with Curses named Y2C - a project born during corona times and which sees the pair deliver their own version of “rave wave” pairing together their love for 80s new wave and 90s rave - the duo’s fresh “Still there” EP is available now through Live at Robert Johnson label.

With an eye to the future and an ear to the past for the most demanding dancefloor, but always with the old-school taste.

When Joachim Spieth asked me to write his biography, I knew I would have to be a bit creative in order to write something different. You see when writing a biography, there are things you have to speak about, even though you know it has been said many times, and you fear it will end up looking like any other biography, with the usual and righteous amount of name droppings.

For instance, I couldn’t avoid saying that Joachim Spieth has released a numerous amount of records, on labels as renowned and diverse as Michael Mayer’s Kompakt, Traum Schallplatten, or Paso Music to name only few. And that some of those releases, such as « Under Pressure » have been, and are still hits. How could I pass on the fact that some of his compositions have been charted by Martin Gore and Sven Väth, played by Juan Atkins and Derrick May, licensed by The Orb or remixed by Rolando? And I couldn’t possibly forget the label Affin he has successfully been running for seven years, with 150 releases added to its catalogue.

I also had to mention that he has been involved in the electronic music scene for the past fifteen years; that he used to play in a band as a teenager. I had to name the clubs in which he has played during the last decade. Tresor Berlin, Tunnel, Culture Box or Hive Zurich being his regular meeting points with the crowd.

But I did not really want to speak about all of the above. Because what matters at the end is who he is, what he wants to express by producing music and what he has been giving to the scene. Being a shy character, he is not the type of person searching for the spotlight but someone that is evolving on the scene by pure passion, and wants to communicate this passion to the others. He created his label Affin to be as independent as possible and focus on discovering new talents.

But most importantly, what Joachim Spieth does not put into words, is translated into sounds. Deep, solemn and at times enraged, his productions represents Techno in its purest expression. They are made to occupy our dying cathedrals of concrete, to crush the reality of our everyday life under an assumed individuality. The elaborated basses and the echoing melodies grab our minds to throw them in a far away world, leaving the silence of a doomed society behind.
