It's strange of me to record this song; I usually write a lot of lyrics about my life, but I rarely record the ones that have strong ties to the experiences I have. This one, however, was an interesting, rocky part of my life that felt good to sing about.

At the time of writing, I'd recently broken up with a rather major girlfriend and was feeling pretty bad. We'd broken up 'cause I'd realised that she wasn't the one and she was blind-sided, which made me feel awful for a long, long time after.

Having just had that, I'd also moved out into a flat in Cheltenham by myself and had suddenly gone from a happy, busy relationship to being on my own on a very regular basis.

This song's about when I saw my now-ex a couple of months after we'd split up to talk things over. We talked about the nice times, about old memories and watching New Year's Eve from the top of Cleeve Hill. By this time I'd spent tonnes of my savings trying to make myself feel better and realised that (to be in-keeping with the metaphor), I'd burned my world to the ground and pretty soon it was really going to hit me hard.

For the record, I'm happy again now. Funny how that roller-coaster of emotion goes, eh?
