We are starting today gently and cautiously with the latest edition of our live special series. Today we welcome Berlin artist Wayhna. He describes his sound as a downtempo fusion cuisine. What exactly he means by this can be clearly heard in his really cool and relaxed recording from Beate Uwe. The perfect sound to start the day slowly or just take it easy. Many thanks for this wonderfully relaxed mix from Nirvanna. 
If you're looking for after-hours sounds, this is the place to be. Chapeau.

✔️ What are your musical influences? What is your musical background? 
Playing the guitar and bass my whole youth was a good base for rhythm and sound-perception.. thankfully a good friend introduced me to the early minimal-techno and downtempo music by the age of 14, where I also discovered the first (live-)sets by NU, Sascha Braemer or Luis Rosenberg.. It really shifted my taste and so I bought my first controller back then to teach myself how to convert a playlist into a mixtape – this music and long-listening-art never lost my interest since then.(:

✔️ What do you think makes a good after-hours party? 
The crowd is sorted into the ones that were flowing through the night and couldn’t leave, no more
judging, no more show, just the base of people that felt one with the energy they created together. You
know every face around you and new people feel like you know them forever. Everyone can fully let go to
their inner child. The music gets more laid-back and trippy, talks get funnier, legs get squichy.. a vibe that stays in mind for longer than the night.

✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about your mix? 
Downtempo can be intense, sensual, epic and bouncy.. everything fits into a certain vibe. This mix came
out more of the cozy side for an easy listening.. in my opinion this sound was more common some years
ago and although it was an opening of the night, it has the atmosphere of an afterhour, that’s why it found it’s place here.

✔️ What was your experience of the set you recorded? 
It was my first time playing in Beate, a Club I’m dancing regularly since years.. so of course there was a
little excitement before especially because I decided to improvise, but feeling that the crowd, team and
LoveFoundation friends are open for this kind of slow music, it fastly transitioned into a fun ride opening
to a whole night of beautiful slow organic sounds.

Jan Ludentwiete doesn’t start this set with a track.
He starts with an intro, and with the word rebellion. That immediately caught us. Not big or dramatic, more like a quiet thought that stays with you.

From there the set unfolds in his own way. Bouncy basslines meet laid-back grooves. Melodic downtempo blends into down-pitched disco, with touches of slow tech and indie dance. Nothing feels forced. It just flows and slowly shifts without you noticing the exact moment it changes.

You can hear his Hamburg roots, that Mojo Club warmth, the sense for atmosphere and timing. Forgotten gems appear next to bold modern sounds, and somehow it all feels connected. Less like a mix of genres, more like a story being told.

It is not a loud peak time statement.
It is a set that takes its time.
And that is exactly why it stays with you. 🖤

🤑 If you could live the life of a famous person for a day, who would it be, and why?
Actually, I don’t seek to live any famous peoples’ lives not even for a day:) 
Fame might be the least sustainable source of happiness I can imagine. 
I do envy artists for experiencing a satisfying flow that lets them forget about the rest of the world.
Be it David Byrne testing song lines for ‚Psycho Killer‘ or craftspeople building perfect shapes on dusty workbenches. 

🧳 If you were given the opportunity to travel to outer space, would you take it, and why or why not?
I prefer riding my bike. I’d rather launch a few hand-picked idiots from politics and business into distant orbits than fly into the cold void myself.

🎥 Is there a TV show or movie you could watch over and over again?
I enjoy intelligent and quiet movies that create high tensions with little resources. 
Moonrise Kingdom, Call Me by Your Name, Portrait of a Lady in Flames for example. 
Also dark British slapstick like The Mighty Boosh can lift my mood.

🌸 SINAMIN presents Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 313 🌸

Is it summer again already? No, but spring is just around the corner. At least here in the south of France, the first daffodils are blooming and scattered lavender plants are already spreading their sweet, aromatic scent. Fittingly, today we have none other than Mrs. Sunshine aka SINAMIN with us, who will take you on a delicious and gentle journey through the dreamy disco landscapes of times gone by. As a child of the 80s/90s, listening to this music brought back flashbacks of my mom's (RIP) favorite cassette, which I always listened to secretly. No wonder SINAMIN's sound enchanted me right from the start. She proceeds very gently, building up the suspense with skillful nonchalance and relaxation. Here and there, evergreens from the 80s and 90s are played as raw mashups, sometimes she uses edits. No matter what, it's just fun. She also gradually increases the tempo and brings disco into your living room. Your feet just can't keep still with this sound. Let the sun into your heart. It's a cheesy saying, but that's how it is with her. It's wonderful and once again one of those episodes that will probably retain its brilliance for years to come.

✘ What makes good "afterhour"?

S:// A good afterhour for me is when you end up somewhere the sunlight streams through colored glass windows. It's cozy. You're sitting close, arms wrapped around your friends, sharing deep stories and funny moments. You're making memories without any pressure of time or place.
There's a playlist running in the background: songs everyone somehow knows by heart and sings along to. You take care of each other, maybe open another bottle of prosecco. And if nobody else says it then I will surely do it: „So jung kommen wir nicht mehr zusammen" ("We won't all be this young together again.") – and you know it sounds cheesy but it's true.

My first gigs were actually afterhour sets, and I loved them for exactly that reason. After the peak-time intensity, you could reach people in a different way. You could bring emotions back to the surface with familiar melodies, with tracks that were maybe a little cheesy but honest. In those moments, it wasn't about being cool. It was about connection.

Bringing a piano into my DJ sets has been a dream of mine for a few months, but it was also quite a challenge, as I had exactly 3 weeks to re-learn - I didn’t own a piano - and practice after a 15-year break. Witnessing it all come to life on the dancefloor was pure magic and so rewarding, the reception from you all was more than I could have ever hoped for!  🚀❤️‍🔥🫶
