"An important part of touring is the connections you make with different people when travelling around the world. And when going to America, a big part of that experience has been connected to the people around Interdimensional Transmissions and The Bunker NY. While we couldn’t be together in person, I was very glad to be part of Samhain XX streaming online. The set was recorded at my home in Tokyo, but I tried to play how I might have played if I was with everyone in Detroit. Perhaps best-loved for his dynamic take on techno in both his productions and his DJ sets — having been involved and around music for nearly 30 years, @DVS1 is an expert in his field, a true veteran of the scene whose roots extend beyond DJing into grassroots raves and event promotion in his native Minneapolis. 

These days, he continues to push his own limits, getting involved in and starting up projects that fuel his love of music, but also his love of the community he was raised in and helped build. His most recent venture, Aslice, is a software-based platform which proposes a fairer music ecoysystem for DJs and promoters is in its early days, but its concept is bringing up questions for both me and Zak. 

For episode 47, we're exploring the value of art, the definition of success, his own personal perceptions of his worth as an artist.

Who better than DIAL stalwart Efdemin could wrap up the year on such a distinctly class-act type of note? Probably no one. He who’s become an absolute gem trader over the years through a string of epoch-making efforts, including the time-proof masterpiece that is “Decay” in 2014, drops by to grace us with a mesmeric Xmas tale by way of waving goodbye to 2022. Extruding elements of techno deepness out their usual cast to mingle them with that exploratory, jazz-inflected approach of his - subtly pairing the lingering beauty of stretched-out synths with that of free-flowing 4x4 grooves and haunting melodies, Efdemin entices us on a path of delectably focused and flavourful techno sensibility. An absolute pleasure and honour for us to round off 2022 in such good company.

Techno and ambient have a certain inextricable valence that many great artists are constantly mining in their search for new sounds, though maybe few as well as Berlin based DJ/Producer Alex Moya. Under his Refracted alias, the Spaniard is master of his sound: one that veers from atmospheric and pathos heavy to dexterous techno fit for dancefloor ritual. He’s a sculptor, of transcendent waveforms that is, and one whose sonic explorations have been released on storied imprints like PoleGroup, Silent Season, Semantica, Slow Life and his very own outlet Mind Express (fanfare predictably close at heel). Chief among his recent work? Bassiani Podcast 159 is a strong contender. A droning dose of reality-warping techno, 95 minutes of ricocheting sounds from a talent like no other.
