None may be better suited to crafting eulogies than William Basinski. The composer who graced us with the melancholy masterpiece Disintegration Loops now turns his gaze to David Bowie. Today marks the one year anniversary of Bowie's passing and so we humbly premiere Basinski's tribute 'For David Robert Jones.' This hymn for the music hero will be released January 20th on Temporary Residence Ltd. ‘Descend in Chains’, the new release by Torus, reflects the Dutch RBMA alumni’s “personal fascination for the semantics and semiotics of religion” and its relation to capitalism. The spiritual undertones are apparent on “Earth”, Torus’ collaboration with fellow Academy grad Malibu. A sacral choir greets the listener in the track’s opening seconds, gradually communing with exalted piano chords and Malibu’s own divine incantations.

Torus’ ‘Descend in Chains’ is out as a free release July 17th.

Torus - Earth (feat. Malibu)

Inspired by the flora and fauna of our planet, Sign Libra’s productions invoke lush, magical dreamscapes. In 2016 the Latvian RBMA alumna released her ‘Closer to the Equator’ EP digitally via Sounds of the Dawn and now the excellent French label Antinote is blessing us with a physical version of the record. We’re excited to host the second track from the EP, entitled “Mantodea vs. Furcifer Pardalis,” a beautiful concoction that Sign Libra also played for us in the participant introduction round at the 2016 Academy in Montréal. Since she provided us with an evocative description of her own track, we can’t help but to share that with you as well in full:

“Living in trees and bushes, animals must hide themselves well from predators and be skillful hunters. One of such masters of ambush and mimicry is the praying mantis. Well camouflaged and lighting up quickly, this insect is a highly efficient predator, but it has a worthy enemy – the panther chameleon. Its camouflage is exceptional because it can change skin colour to match its surroundings. During the hunt the chameleon’s eyes move independently to spot prey. It creeps towards its victim until it unleashes a super weapon – its tongue, which shoots out at a speed of 15 meters per second and not only hits but grasps its target…”

Sign Libra’s ‘Closer to the Equator’ EP is out on vinyl February 19th via Antinote.
