rave anthems, slowed and reverb'd for easy listening, lovingly carved from many cassette tapes documenting the pirate fairlight radio station that broadcast on weekends across metro vancouver from 1999-2001.

Opening sample of organizer Brian bone being interviewed by the local news about thier protest rave entitled day glow that took place on a summer day at the steps of the Vancouver art gallery on the early 2000’s. 


News Reporter: “You don’t have a permit to run this thing tomorrow?”

Brian: “Nope.”

News Reporter: “Are you breaking the law?”

Brian: “Uhhhhhh…”

Here's the stand-alone sound-file from my iPad music deck soundtrack on YouTube.

It's a multi-track session on electric bass, de-tuned autoharp (struck with chopsticks), erhu (Chinese 2-string fretless chordophone with captive bow), girl berating, police radio, canoeing on a glacial lake, geese taking flight, antique halloween noise-maker ratchet, voice, 1969 Chevrolet Impala (trying to start), and a whole bunch of piezo-music Christmas cards I set-off at a local Wal-Mart (I had an assistant, it was a show-stopper).

I learned to play the erhu in England while driving the Cotswolds. With an old map as reference, I was hiking local woodlands searching for tumuli –– ancient Roman tombs. I'd hang a stereo recorder in a tree above the tomb, often a simple mound of earth in the forest, and attempt to record sonic anomalous propagation.

It was Ray Man, in London, who sold me my first erhu (I have four, the one heard here is from Ray Man's shop). I asked him how best to learn this difficult instrument. Smiling gently he said, "practice." 

The recording is light-hearted but factual: there are no artist control numbers.

We also caught up with her for lil chat, listen and read below.

AM: We’re really big fans of your NTS show, what’s the inspiration for it each month and is there a theme you try and convey? 

Thanks a lot! I don't really have a theme necessarily even though subconsciously I say I will every time but doesn't happen

My inspiration usually comes from my day-to-day, I see the mixes as a sort of creative output and playlists that I imagine people listening to while cooking, drinking or chatting. I try to set a mood a bit more than a theme. 

AM: It’s a bit of a weird one at the mo but what have you been up to recently? 

I am a postgraduate student so the university takes up most of my time so that and (still) adapting to online learning


AM: We loved the More Time EP a couple years back, was that a long time in the works? How did you get into producing? 

I got into producing a couple of years after moving to the UK, I started getting into bass and techno and wanted to explore blending Saudi drums with dance music.


AM: Where & how did you record the mix & what was the idea behind it?

At home with my old radio CDJs. I had a look at the podcast series and seeing that it was mostly dance music I kind of got excited to play that too because I never do it on NTS. 

AM: Out of music what are your interests? 

I have ADHD so I have a lot of interests, but mostly within academia and non-fiction writing.

AM: Whats next for ya in 2021? 

Recovering from 2020 :)
