-I'm actually really happy with this piece. It came together with a simple beat and wrote itself in front of me after that. I wove in some Dance of Wanderers cues for good measure, just to feel like I was doing something!

"What The Fuck Are We Doing Out Here?" is a bold single released in 2024 by Ramon Inc., blending experimental trap with layers of synth, jazz mannerisms, and warm electronic salsa grooves. The result is a hybrid piece that plays with the contrast between the cool urban sound of trap and the engaging rhythmic fluidity of jazz and salsa.

The vocal sample that opens the track—with the repetitive phrase that gives the song its title—was taken from a viral video, lending immediate personality and a sense of existential urgency to the sonic narrative. This spoken word carries emotional resonance: a blunt, almost existential questioning that wanders through moments of introspection with a Latin twist.

The production utilizes minimalist trap beats and deep bass, contrasted with polyphonic synths and melancholic saxophones that evoke jazz in their dissonant chords, as well as electronically programmed salsa percussion (conga, timbal), bringing swing and tension simultaneously. The synth sections float over grooves and breakbeats, creating an acoustic microcosm where urban meets tropical, with an experimental and deconstructive tone.

The vocal sample that gives voice to the song is taken from an iconic and sincere moment of a reporter who passed away in 2014, but who remains alive in our memories for his courage and humanity. He responded to the pressure of a difficult day, revealing a very human side by expressing his frustration at missing his daughter's birthday due to an unexpected call to cover a simple traffic incident. This moving story, which reveals the man behind the microphone, reinforces the depth of the sample used by Ramon Inc., which pays tribute to a professional who dared to question his place in the chaos and who left a legacy of dignity and truth. May his daughter and grandchildren have a prosperous life, and may he rest in peace.
