I'm a huge fan of a lot of movie and television scores for a lot of the content from the 50s and 60s, and have been especially influenced by Bernard Herrmann's work with Hitchcock as well as material like this. Here's my interpretation of Mr. Herrmann's piece for a Twilight Zone episode in 1959. 

Instruments in order of their appearance: Atmospherics, Trombone, Vibes, Ondes Martenot, Trumpet, Piano, Glockenspiel, Harp, Synth, and Organ.

THE UNIVERSAL ONE

He is the king of the castle
not a cat on the fence
he has no ego he says
in his own defence

I want him to come clean
to tell me everything
his thoughts upon the mountain and
all the things he has seen
but I am just his inspiration
the stuffing in his song
something tells me baby
I will not inspire you for long

I am a travelling light and
Searching in the darkness
for the  Universal One who
will see me hear me love me
share this infinity in a grain of sand
No king of the castle no troubadour on the hill

Disappointment can breed contempt
Contempt is better than compassion
The former is my defence and
