DGTL Records marks its fifth anniversary in style with ‘5YRS of DGTL Records’. The 14-track long player is released on April 16th as a 4x 12” vinyl set and drops digitally across 4 separate EP releases between February 18 and April 1, of which the first one features Mano Le Tough, Jimi Jules, Coloray and Tjade.
 
5YRS of DGTL Records is a perfect reflection of not just of the label itself but also its global event patron: headliners sitting equally alongside local talent and up-and-coming acts. Over the past five years, DGTL Records has grown into its own as a fully-fledged musical arm of the overall DGTL musical experience.

Mano Le Tough opens the release with the serene and heartfelt ‘Either 
Way’. He layers lighthearted guitar tabs, mesmerizing vocals and springy synths on each other to create a sublime affair that makes you reminisce and smile about the good things in life. Jimi Jules follows with ‘Anna Bolika’, a hypnotic and progressive track. It draws you in with constant chord progressions and mesmerizing sound 
design. Vocals are echoed cautiously to add to its ominous and eerie 
atmosphere. 

‘Polarity’ is Coloray's addition to the release. It features warm and granular synths, leaning towards the 8 bit retro synthwave sound, while rolling out a breakbeat drum pattern and heavy hitting kicks, with which he keeps the piece energetic and with a driving force throughout. Closing this first of four EP’s, Tjade presents ‘De Halve Maan’, a powerful tune for big rooms and big energy. Analogue synths, progressive bass lines and layers of melodic keys create a sense of revival and resurgence, with a hint of trance.

Jimi Jules - Anna Bolika

A dynamic duo returns to Joris Voorn and Edwin Oosterwal's Rejected: Steve Bug and Cle. Two old friends who get together with no other motive than to have fun on their machines and dig deep into the art of groove creation.

Their collaborative fusion is a tried and tested combination that goes back almost 20 years with tracks like 'Behind TheCurtain' and 'Monkey Shoulder'. It continues to this day, with much of their collaborative output landing on Rejected, including huge heaters like 'Together', 'Tweaky Blinders', 'Flying Keys'. And now these two wonderful late night monsters: 'The Rave' and 'Butterflies Speak Poetry'.

'The Rave' is the sound of Bug and Cle flexing back over their old Berlin stomping grounds like Planet and E-Werk. Armed with swinging percussive beats and classic ravey detuned synth tones, it's that perfect sweet spot between heritage and futurism, rooted in the foundation but still with its head in tomorrow.

For added sweetness, dig deeper for the profound sounds of 'Butterflies Speak Poetry'. An intense exploration of 303 funk, this one is all about the acid lines and how they intertwine and flutter between each other to create another timeless slab of deep, dark matter funk. Every bit as free spirited as both butterflies and poetry, it's another precision combination from the long-standing Rejected duo. Long may this dynamism continue.

The twenty seventh release on EI8HT finds the label head honcho Andres Campo return to the roost with the ‘Slam’ EP, a bustling and solid four tracker that’s laced with jackin’ and direct techno chops.

Alongside Bristolian behemoth Eats Everything, Campo has been steering their EI8HT imprint to great things over the last three years, with exceptional releases from the likes of Truncate, Gaston Zani, Black Girl / White Girl, Carlo Lio and many more. The ‘Slam’ EP marks Campo’s second release for the label, and it doesn’t disappoint.

Bolting out of the starting block, title track ‘Slam’ pounds hard and funky, as Campo delivers a banger that’s demonstrative of the techno sounds that he plies in his bombastic DJ sets around the globe. Metallic beats and cheeky vocal samples, all delivered with pace and intensity, form the basis for the accompanying tracks here, with the old skool rave motifs of ‘Horn’ acting as the finale for this flawless release from the boss man.

Over the years, Lo Recordings has taken pride in exploring a wide and broad range of sounds, genres and styles. To mark 20 Years of Lo Recordings, we are taking a fresh and bold approach with our output to further explore the accelerating and refined developments in electronic music today. 

This is the first of our new phase of releases, a collaborative project between the two titans Mr. G and K15. ‘A Learning Curve’ is exactly as the title suggests; an educational experience to understand each other musically and technically, and to explore new territories and schools of thought. 

As avid users and fans of the MPC, as well as being extremely busy, both Mr. G and K15 were given the same samples dug out of the Lo Recordings archives to each create a track which would remotely display their techniques and methods. This was quickly adopted to be the theme in a series of three releases to come out throughout the year from the pair. 

The results come in the form of Mr. G’s mesmerising ‘Navigate’ and K15’s introspective ‘The Guilt Within’; two very individual tracks in their own rights. 

‘Navigate’ is instantly recognisable as the work of its creator, armed and ready to bring the dance floor to hypnotic heights. With its rough and gritty sound, driving kick & synth stabs, and hauntingly majestic keys, we are thrown into peak of the night. On the flip, ‘The Guilt Within’ takes a turn to more ominous territories, crafting an atmosphere on the other end of the spectrum to ‘Navigate’. A beautiful and delicate journey carried along by light skipping percussion, immersive sweeping pads and a pulsing sub which all come together to take the listener deep inside themselves.
