Radio Slave drops full release of 2019’s mysterious white label, ’Silent Witness’.

Originally released in the summer of 2019 under the name Silent Witness and titled ‘Year Of The Snake’, Radio Slave’s ’Silent Witness’ is a two track single that sees the British artist delve into his late eighties/early nineties bleep influences. The title track’s insistent, no-messing staccato groove and tightly looped discordant tones fall firmly into the ‘face melter’ area of the racks while the flip’s ‘Year of the Snake’ takes a moodier path that screams late night tension.

With a three part LP and numerous singles slated for release, 2020 is shaping up to be Radio Slave’s aka Matthew Edwards most productive year to date. From a producer with hundreds of tracks and countless aliases and side projects where the quality threshold never dips, it’s an incredible feat.

"The latest release from Tash’s Movement Recordings welcomes Kostakis to the label for his debut EP. The South African artist first appeared in 2014 on Get Physical with the Beatport chart success ‘iKalimba’. With the backing of Adriatique, Pete Tong and Solomun, Kostakis has since showcased his music via Chapter 24 Records and KATERMUKKE. Now landing on Movement Recordings, the Cape Town resident presents his ‘Ithaca’ EP, alongside remixes from Matchy, Paul Anthonee and Chris Sen.

Beginning with the title selection Kostakis explores a contemporary astral narrative. Tough beats and a chugging groove sit at the foundation while haunting pads and spacey arps descend over the framework. Fluid and cosmic in equal measure, rugged rhythms push momentum into a tense yet emotive break, before tasteful modulation peaks and striking stabs cue a powerful finale. The companion piece ‘Ithaca’ follows a similar sonic ethos and sits as a perfect complement to its predecessor. It’s rolling groove is not only powerful but perfectly contoured, adorned with fiery percussion and ethereal effects. Astral fragments and pensive arps drift across the framework while dramatic overlays continue to build tension into the break. Cavernous yet striking, the centerpiece melts down to an effervescent sizzle, as a gentle rush sparks a driving final movement.

The lone interpretation of ‘Telos’ is provided by Matchy who makes his label debut. The Berlin based producer has been a creative force in the melodic house and techno scene. Releases on BeatFreak Recordings, KATERMUKKE, Stil Vor Talent and Suara highlight his discography while a unique DJ style has seen him continually delight crowds at Sisyphos and Katerblau. Drawing on the sensibilities of the original the Berlin resident leans closer to peak time territory, with a reworked groove and rolling rhythmic core. Vocal loops and piercing effects sit atop a layer of tonal tension, perfectly setting up a break that is both illuminating and emotive, before ultimately shifting energy into a fiery finale. [...] "

Dense & Pika’s Kneaded Pains imprint has been a ‘tour de force’ of late, releasing a consistent stream of top notch techno and electronica from artists like Egbert, Mat Playford, Eats Everything, Charlotte de Whitte, Robots With No Soul, Elisa Bee, Martin Books and many more.
 
The duo have been busy of late, readying their full length album for BMG and dropping a couple of singles as a precursor, including a collaboration with Leftfield.  The ‘Neon’ single comes on their own imprint, pulling together two box fresh cuts in their own inimitable fashion.
 
Charging and thunderous beats are coupled with bright rave piano stabs and cut up vox on ‘Neon’, whilst ‘Gout’ takes a decidedly darker route, nonetheless just as funky, as mangled tones and vocals are injected into a tight and dominant rhythm.

Two pioneering German techno duos come together in the latest release for Second State: Motion Unit’s “My Mind” from 1998, given the remix treatment by label bosses Pan-Pot and served three different ways. 

A big walloping kick, industrial crunch, guttural drones and an assortment of spacey synths over the top bring the “Radar Remix” slamming into the now. It’s densely layered, fast-moving, forever changing gears, and bound to blow the roof off virtual raves around the world this summer. The “Future Remix” is more pared back, percolating gently with breathy vocal effects, a slo-mo drone and squelchy acid lines creating a moody, after-hours vibe. Conjuring trippy scenes from outer space, the “Galactica Remix” closes the release out with an unpredictable patchwork of broken beats, snatches of robotic vocal samples and woozy pads, for less conventional dancefloor moments. 

The My Mind remix package offers three exceptional versions of a classic track that are respectful to the source material while refreshing it with the modern techniques and sounds that Pan-Pot are famous for.

Rebar go full-on dystopian on their "The Rise Of A Crisis" EP on @made-of-concrete. Despite the suggestive title, the first two tracks were composed before the crisis period, yet seem to fit in "perfectly" with the times.

Title track is an immersive incursion padded with drone zaps and warped basslines that instills tension as well as elation, as the tension is released. 'Ray Of Light' offers some much needed introspection in a slice of heads down dub techno with a slight progressive tinge. Drums are the quintessence of rhythm on 'Enter The Void', as percussion creates endless spiralling loops of infectious grooves. Ahead of his full release on the label, Alexander Kowalski joins with a reinterpretation of the title track. Known for aptly fusing elements from classic Detroit and historical Berlin techno, it’s this imprint that he applies to the track, turning it into a sleek, electro-spacey cut.

EPMmusic welcomes back Neapolitan DJ and producer, Francesco Terranova with his fourth EP for the label.

Starting his career in the mid 1990s, Francesco Terranova has been a recurring guest DJ for the Techno collective, Open Mindz crew.  Making his EPMmusic debut in 2015 with the ‘Magnetica / Recovery EP’ (EPM41), the relationship has continued with the release of two further EPs, ‘La Terra’ (EPM48) the following year, and ‘Forma Mentis’ (EPM67) in 2018.  He has also produced releases for labels including Disjointed Reality, De-Konstrukt, The Zone Records, Bulletdodge and Renesanz.

Returning for 2020, ‘Sasy In The Dark’ features three new Techno tracks from Terranova: ‘Levotus’, where dark bass and atmospherics are contrasted by twinkling bells, the throbbing ‘Electromotive’ like an irresistible call to the dance floor, and ‘Sidermec’ which teases with it’s faintly askew beats.

Also included is an exceptionally powerful remix of ‘Electromotive’ by fellow Italian, Davide Nannini under his Dekeyden alias.  Nannini is also no stranger to EPM, being one half of the Basic Frame duo (EPMmusic, Gynoid Audio).  Dekeyden is his new solo project, which has already gained him releases on the likes of Planet Rhythm, AWRY and Affekt.
