Jon Schorah aka Cedar is a producer intent on finding new ways to embrace his musical influences, from deep house, ambient, techno to drum & bass and minimalism. Much of his early work (circa 1999) appeared on the infamous Good Looking Records and sub labels.

Later works quickly saw Cedar embrace a more eclectic style, including deep house and broken beat excursions, combining intricate programming with electronic atmospheres and warm harmonic pulses.

Switching from production to music software design led to several years of silence in the commercial world, shortly to be broken with the forthcoming Transfer EP. Again incorporating his signature atmospheric sound, now more technical and experimental, this release pushes the boundaries of genre classification and signals a direction for future works.

At the intersection of minimalist, technical drum n bass & atmospheric electronica lies the latest release, Transfer. The title track sees hypnotic evolutionary rhythms cross pollinate and slide between pure sub tones, ebbing and flowing in a modernist architectural landscape infused with heavily manipulated natural noise recordings, stretched and looped into ghostly shimmers and pulsating tones.

Driving polyrhythms push and pull the tide of natural radio ambience throughout Sferics. Threatening darker overtones spill over, but never quite overcome, as warm pulses eventually enfuse the panorama.
Proxima pushes and pulls with half-time layers anchoring double time pulses, anchored with suckin-sub bass and modulated noise breathing into the space between. From the tension, eventually, harmony arises to fade away almost as it began.

Tension and pressure predominate as VLF ticks toward some serious sub tones. Deep house influences abound yet the signature d’n’b tempo remains.

Cedar – Transfer

Tammo Hesselink inaugurates his newly launched imprint Rear View Memory, intended for occasional outings of personal works. On this first release called ‘Borrowed Wheels’ the Dutch producer combines his rhythmic side with his modern hypnotic techno approach. Tammo has developed an outstanding body of work under a range of alias’ since the mid-2010’s, first releasing via his own imprint “The Invariants” before seeing his music published on famed Dutch platforms Delsin Records and Nous Klaer Audio in more recent years.

For this Premiere, we hop on the B side of the record for a halftime drum & bass workout in collaboration with Romanian producer DYL. DYL is a Romania based experimental producer on his real name “Eduard Costea” with releases on such labels as Alphacut, One Seventy, RE:ST, Nord Label and many more. Both the artists developed a distinctive style with a genre-bending approach. ‘Prelude’ manages to draw a fine line in between UK techno, bass and post-dubstep.

An elusive producer comes back with a new mantle: Ruff Cherry, last seen on the label in 2017, returns with an EP of shredded halftime drum & bass with jungle accents that etches out a dominating stance in the producer’s first foray outside the thresholds of techno. Hugely distant from a meager first stab at the genre, the Cork-based producer’s ‘Phantom Fortress’ EP proficiently demarcates a sparse battleground for conflicting and rhythmically harmonic drum flairs, enveloping bass, and taut sound design that is as compelling as it is exhilarating.

Well, you know what? To be an artist, the real one, is to be in a constant chaotic flow-like state (and pain … much pain, of course) - endless experimenting, making a lot (like, A LOT!) of mistakes every day to learn and improve yourself, dealing with all these damned emotional ups’n’downs of self-doubt and self-criticism, then somehow finding the strength to push yourself through it, to continue to discover, create and experience NON-STOP, 24/7, 365.
And for me, it was (it is and it will be) like this for 13 years now.
To be honest, even if I try I won't remember myself NOT being a die-hard artist.
So maybe NOW the question "Why this album?" is answered - because this album is special to me!
This album is (LITERALLY!) 13 years of me slowly losing my mind from being in this fucked-up chaotic flow-like state I mentioned before!
BUT! You know what's the craziest part?
After all these years, I finally can be 100% sure that everything/anything I do isn't just for nothing.
Because I feel like I can finally share all this crazy shit I’ve been creating all these years with you.
Because all and each one of you made me feel that way.
And none of you can’t even imagine how much that means to me and how much I fucking love all and each one of you.
So please don’t make me regret any of this.
And thanks for 2000 followers - that’s just unbelievable ... but also simply amazing.
