Black Angus Records becomes BKA Records – Beats Kickin’ Again

After a long hiatus caused by the challenges and changes brought on by the Covid period, we’re finally ready to start again. We're coming back with fresh energy, new inspiration, and a lineup of exciting new projects. But we’re also returning with a new identity.

Black Angus Records is now BKA Records – Beats Kickin’ Again.

During these past years, while working on other musical ventures, we also took time to reflect on who we are, what we stand for, and where we’re headed. One important question we asked ourselves was: could our original name, Black Angus Records, be offensive or hurtful to anyone?

We know exactly how that name came about—it was a casual moment during a dinner with friends, while enjoying a Scottish black angus steak. It sounded good to us: bold, strong, like the kind of music we love to make. But we also understand that words matter, and we would never want our name to be misunderstood or perceived as insensitive.

Music is what truly matters to us.
It’s about expression, freedom, unity. It’s about blending cultures, sounds, and stories. Without that kind of exchange, there’s no real musical—or human—growth. Music should be a bridge, not a barrier. It should bring people together, not push them apart.

That’s the spirit behind BKA Records – Beats Kickin’ Again: a name that represents our desire to start fresh, to hit harder, to resonate louder. It’s a name that feels right—full of rhythm, energy, and rebirth.

To everyone who supported us as Black Angus Records: thank you. We hope you’ll join us in this new chapter. What’s coming next is just the beginning. Stay tuned—the beat is back.

Independent record label, born from a passion for Jazz-House music. Our journey began in 2015, rooted in a simple idea: to create a platform on YouTube dedicated to showcasing the nuanced world of "sophisticated Jazz-oriented electronic music." Fueled by the desire to fill the niche genre of Jazz-House, we embarked on a mission to curate and share tracks that often eluded mainstream recognition.

With his own unique treatment of sleazy, minimal electro and acid beats, MKDSL (stands for ‘Mom Says I’m Pretty’ in Serbian) has been uplifting the local clubbing auditorium since the early 2000s.

Equally influenced by Aphex Twin and Laurie Anderson, as well as 90s Dutch masters such as I-F and Legowelt, MKDSL is one of the most interesting producers and DJs in Belgrade today, crossing his humorous, camp personality with a serious devotion to music.

He hosts a Friday evening show with DJ Flip on Belgrade’s radio B92, called Idemo Na Mars, 08-10 pm GMT+1.


Pedja Milutinovic is a drummer and now composer from Serbia, a leading figure of the jazz scene in the Balkans. He is an arts activist, locally known for encouraging boom-up organisation and mutually supportive collaborations between talented individuals in a region that has scarce resources for the arts, using the internet to overcome geographical boundaries and build new collective capabilities among musicians who share these values. Milutinovic is all about unexpected alliances and unintended outcomes. By publishing his debut album with Orenda Records, he shows us that, through collaboration, it is possible to change conditions that structure our lives no matter where we live or where we come from, and to develop languages that speak across cultures and even across continents, while respecting our different cultural influences and staying true to our origins.
