From breaking through in the early 90s right when things were still done wild, helming the legendary Lost club nights from 1992 onward, onto becoming a pioneering figure of the UK's underground, it's safe to say Steve Bicknell ticks all the boxes of a self-made myth in the scene. Tirelessly pushing the boundaries of techno as we know it, the British don has been carving out his name in gold letters amongst the pantheon of DJs capable to evolve and transcend both themselves and their audience through the cathartic power of music. Always a step ahead, Bicknell treats us to two hours of resolutely immersive and achingly powerful soul-search, seamlessly criss-crossing our brains with his top-of-the-range anti-bullshit techno medicine. Detroit might be synonymous with techno, but it also has a rich house tradition. And Rick Wade—FKA Big Daddy Rick—is one of Detroit house's key players. Along with the likes of Keith Worthy, Theo Parrish and the late Mike Huckaby (who Wade had a lifelong friendship and friendly rivalry with), he created a hybrid sound that is both techno and house, effortlessly soulful, sculpted and glowing—and Midwest to the core. As Tajh Morris said in a retrospective review of one of his classic records, "growing up in Buchanan, Michigan, meant that Wade was much closer to Chicago than he was to Detroit."

Many of Wade's best records were released on Harmonie Park, his era-defining label that also featured plenty of work from Huckaby. Those EPs still sound fresh and timeless today, qualities that extend to Wade's RA Podcast, which features 90 minutes of smooth-as-butter house old and new. Over the years he's kept the flame burning for the smouldering sounds of Detroit house, working in sounds from younger producers like Folamour along the way. Enjoy listening to a master at work.

For this set I played on 4 CDJ 3000’s and a V10 mixer, using both of its internal effects processors. For every No Way Back set, and for most sets, I try to prepare new hardware remasters and edits of things that I think would be fascinating recontextualized in this setting. But for NWB, it is even more special, a peak moment, so I try to have new records I’m working on in the studio to test out. For this set that means the hardware mixes I’ve been working on for Torrvo and for Andy Toth can be tested, I’m working on this hardware mixing and remastering tone palate, so I spread that to some edits to give them a whole new power. Playing at No Way Back cannot be put into words, though we try every year, it really is inexplicable without experiencing it. It’s the environment you most want to be in, the space is totally transformed, the sound is dialed in, the audience is so ready, very giving and open, and the feedback you get is incredible. People are up for a ride – we start at the Tangent and end up going to the other side of the universe. Freedom within and without. There’s no place I’d rather be, so I thought I’d share this much sooner than we usually do. Enjoy the ride.

https://soundcloud.com/rene-beer (born April 22, 1976) is an electronic musician, producer, remixer from Zagreb, Croatia. His first introduction to music was the piano which he started to play at 10. His father was a radio DJ in the late 80's, and introduced him to the world of funk, hip-hop and house music. In the early 90's he purchased his first equipment and began producing his first compositions. His 1991-1996 releases appear under the names "Future 01" , "Plastic Phase" and included projects based on hardcore techno, house, trance and break beat. During this time he was also working on many remixes and performed at local clubs in Zagreb and on TV stations. In late 90' he found his inspiration in a hybrid of styles from underground jazz to funky house and Detroit techno. In 1998 founded the 'Renesansa' home studio and with his friends began to experiment with sound and produced music for many alternative artists. In 2000 he brought together a group of creative people and formed a radio show, 'Uplifting Intelligence', on 'Radio Samobor', which hosted many DJ's in live performances. In 2001 due to the cultural and economic situation in the country he withdrew from the scene and worked on other projects. In 2011, after a ten-year absence from the scene he once again decided to go with the music production. During the year 2011-2012 he produced about 40 new tracks and remixes signed by the dozen of digital record labels around the world, gaining support of some highly respected DJs and producers of underground electronic music. In the end of 2012 he received an invitation from the famous ballet choreographer Ronald Savkovic, to participate with his music in dance show "Shut Up and Dance", which appears for the first time on the Croatian cultural scene, based on the model of Berlin's Berghain / Panorama Bar. In late 2013' he rebuild his home studio and continues to work on the new material…Keep a look out for his continuous onslaught of releases and remixes.
