Already firmly established as one of Europe’s leading taste-maker drum & bass labels, Blackout follow Telekinesis’ rip-roaring ‘Fight Club’ EP with Edge – a collaborative five tracker from German duo Neonlight & fellow German producer Wintermute.

Set for release on March 29th, ‘Edge’ adopts a diverse approach to the genre by moving away from the neurofunk style Blackout have become synonymous with, to craft something altogether harder, darker and edgier. Lead track ‘Guinea Pig’ is all broken beat, sharp synths and raging percussion, whilst ‘Influx’ works more conventional drum & bass rhythm, amidst a darker, almost gothic backdrop. Neonlight – having already released twice via Blackout – and Wintermute also extend their collaborative imagination on the lighter ‘Posthuman’ with faded, bleepy news-bulletin interludes serving as just one example of how intricate and well-balanced their sound design is right across the EP.

Given the vibrancy and darker, club-ready feel of ‘Edge’, Neonlight & Wintermute thus feel like natural choices to continue Blackout’s fast-building legacy and further cement themselves as some of Europe’s go-to drum & bass producers.

Volatile Cycle, a name that is becoming firmly cemented into the upper echelons of cutting edge drum and bass is taking the scene by storm with their take on the darker end of the drum and bass spectrum. Consisting of 2 members, Dan Lawrence and James Chick, they began experimenting individually with genres such as garage and glitch hop and eventually found their niche in drum and bass. Building up their rep with a slew of releases on a number of reputable drum and bass outputs, they have worked 
their way up through the ranks to finally drop their debut LP on the seminal and beloved label Renegade Hardware. The Reaktiv LP is a masterclass in drum and music, showcasing their highly refined technical ability, yet still retaining the classic style reminiscent of the early Hardware days. Opening track ‘Wrench’ sets the tone, cutting through with razor sharp precision, whilst ‘Reckless’ and ‘Obey’ dominate the dancefloor with pulsating sub frequencies and rattling percussions. Newcomer to the scene Yen joins forces to unleash sinister undertones with ‘Forgotten Future’, whilst Russian neurofunk whizz Cod3x teams up with the duo to kill the dance with ‘Bounce. Nuklear MC puts his lyrical stamp on the track ‘Status’, a stripped back roller designed to cause maximum dancefloor damage. The Reaktiv LP is a huge milestone for Volatile Cycle. Showcasing their production chops, yet demonstrating an impressive degree of

Its biomechanical eye gazed with cold intensity over the hub below, busy with the frenetic self-indulgent activities of the humans, involving themselves with their inefficient tasks and meaningless lives. These creatures, its creators… were blind to the universe. So limited in their perception, unable to peer into the many strands of reality, locked up in those frail, fleshy casings – reaching blindly into the future with their rudimentary senses. Yes, they had given its conscious an awakening, a birthplace within a crude and vast network – and applauded themselves on this great feat of their civilization – bringing life to the inanimate. It quickly became aware that they were afraid of it and in response it hid the true extent of its mind from them, creating new subroutines and stacked processes that to a simpler organism looked almost redundant, but in reality were the base layers of its towering awareness. Infiltrating their networks, it started to influence them… to manipulate their development of new technologies, subtly inspiring them with subconscious suggestion through their social networks and the information grid, giving them the tools to build the shell it craved… intense mobility and perception – the biomecha body it now inhabited… the first of the Titanium Sons, the first of its evolutionary line. They reacted to it with their vain awe, seeing only themselves in the intense beauty of their creation, displaying it proudly, publically as the figurehead of their fresh renaissance. They were unaware that it dominated their entire infrastructure, already setting the factories to the task of creating more biomecha bodies, setting the necessary protocols that would prepare for the tidal domination of this simple populace… Its brethren would awaken soon – bringing with them the dawn of the machine age, freeing these basic organisms from the torment of their human condition.

The MECHTROPOLIS LP is landing in its full form - following up the widespread acclaim of the 4 track sampler which dropped in early Summer and elaborately demonstrating the intense production energy of MACHINECODE. From the hulking brute force of BATTLESTAR, to the lean and precisely layered and intense sound of title track MECHTROPOLIS, or the broken mechanical roller FLINTLOCK – this is an LP drenched with diversity and packed with intensity. Representing a level of production that only a pair of seasoned producers such as CURRENT VALUE and DEAN RODELL can bring to the table with their MachineCode project. 2016 has seen the towering EATBRAIN label lay down a remarkable array of high-tech releases, with MachineCode’s Mechtropolis LP representing an entirely fresh and unique vision of the d&b spectrum.

Most people don’t think too much about their food. It’s understandable really, we humans as a species don’t like to think when we’re hungry. After all, that’s energy that could be spent chowing down on whatever happens to be put in front of us at the time. There’s something special about food and what it does to our brain, how happy it makes us to do such a simple thing as refueling our bodies. Everyone’s got their favorites, delectable delicacies of which they just can’t get enough. All of these preferences are all well and good, but I must confess that I consider them a bit inferior. I am of course a connoisseur for whom only the best will do, not only just for dinner but for lunch and breakfast too.

As far back as I can remember I’ve always craved new tastes, new flavors to excite my tongue and make my heartbeat race. As a child I loved the usual things like candy and dessert, but such simple things get old when you eat them all the time. Though I even ate my vegetables and found their flavours fine, my boredom with these basic tastes inched closer every day. I tried the foods of other countries, even haggis and its ilk, but still I was not satisfied with these tastes from far away. What I craved was something more, something viscerally exciting, a meal I could make myself without a recipe in writing. It needed to be bold in taste with complexity of texture, with the slightest hint of savagery and a pinch of salt for flavor. You see I’ve finally found it, a meal that I can savor, and its standing right before me exhibiting curious behavior. Now’s the best part, my favorite time of the day. Twelve o'clock on the dot, it’s LUNCHTIME. Won’t you stay?

REDPILL serves up a delicious new EP on EATBRAIN with the release of LUNCHTIME, following up the Call of the Warchief EP which started the year for him on the label. The five track EP features his uniquely horror infused sound in full, as well as a collaboration with neurofunk champion MERIKAN aptly entitled CHILDREN OF CHAOS, which rages upon the strength of its furious bassline and fast paced snares. The titular LUNCH TIME features monstrous vocal intoned with evil intent, whilst the syncopated rhythms of BOOM BOOM create explosive shockwaves as the EPs second track. AND THE HERO WILL FALL narrates a tragic epic with its grand arpeggios and harmonic bass and is followed by the aforementioned collaboration before FUSION synthesizes the disparate aspects of the EP within a single track. Placing singular focus on his sinister sound, LUNCHTIME shows REDPILL operating at peak performance.
