American percussionist and composer Michael Ranta is a legendary figure who has worked with some of the most significant names of 20th century music but despite this and impressive body of work of his own, he has remained an obscure figure. Important Records and is pleased to present “Transits, Volume 1” the first in a series of releases by composer/percussionist Sarah Hennies documenting never before heard chamber works mostly composed in the 1970s while Ranta was living in Taiwan.

Based overseas since the late 60s, Ranta is known primarily as a percussionist who worked closely with Harry Partch, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Helmut Lachenmann, Toru Takemitsu and Jean-Claude Éloy but is also an accomplished artist himself with a vast body of work spanning improvisation, electronic music, and composition. The works in the “Transits” series comprise a dozen works of scored compositions for solo and chamber ensembles almost all of which are completely unknown with no known performances or recordings since their original premieres. Volume 1 includes “Mharuva,” a 30-minute marathon tour-de-force for solo marimba, “Seven Pieces for Three Percussionists,” and the 40-minute “Continuum II,” a stunning display of virtuosity for two bass clarinets, percussion, and electronics.


“Transits, Volume 1” features performances by Sarah Hennies, NYC clarinetists Madison Greenstone and Katie Porter, and the Bard College Conservatory Percussion Ensemble.

In a somehow groovy, hypnotic and unsettling way, the Italian producer's acid-laced "Stress Points" challenges and splices the tension between rough organic vibes and cold synthetic configurations.

Almost a decade after its first release, Bologna-based Italian electronic music producer Davide Nicosia, a.k.a. Acid Youth (@acid-youth), returns on MFZ Records (@mfzrecs) with the album "Darkness Is Not Easy".
This new work is the result of years of research and refinement in defining an aesthetic that merges the acid imagery with the song form and melody.
Alongside the usual suspects (808, 303, analog and digital synthesizers), new acoustic and electric elements (drums, guitar, bass) are introduced. The result of this mix is a personal reinterpretation of the sounds from the '90s alternative music scene.
The rhythmic precision of the synthetic elements guides melodic structures characterized by human imperfections. Fuzz guitars go with the acid lines of the 303, while drums mix up with the analog percussions of the 808.
The album’s tracks blend techno atmospheres, shoegaze moods, acid psychedelia and drone expansions.
"Darkness Is Not Easy" is a musical journey accessible to anyone who doesn’t particularly care about strict boundaries between musical genres; a path to be taken without preconceived notions or bias of any kind.

Time flies when you’re having fun. Or when you’re deeply immersed in music, like we are at SoHaSo. Because we missed our own birthday! A decade of Something Happening Somewhere almost went by without any birthday cakes or celebration. So here’s something joyful. 

To mark our 11th birthday, we present 11 tracks to be released on 11.11. The album contains 11 echoes, each a highlight from the journey of our label.

"Of course, it's impossible to pick just 11 highlights from 55 releases”, says label owner Nuno Dos Santos. “But these 11 tracks are truly special to me."

The compilation opens with our first-ever release from Love Over Entropy in November 2013—an immersive, hypnotic stormer that relentlessly builds to epic proportions. Even after all these years, it hasn’t lost an ounce of its charm or energy.

Another standout is the wonderfully wonky Endure by Utrecht-based knob-tweaker Vela Uniform. This track recalls the glory days of Warp’s Artificial Intelligence series—yes, it’s that good.

We also revisit the dubby Detroit minimalism of Luna Ludmilla, and the reissue of our collaborative EP with Lossless, featuring King Britt’s timeless track from 2002. “A sonic narrative that has captivated me since its release, it remains just as fresh and uplifting 22 years later. It felt only right to share its transformative beauty with a wider audience.”

Then, there's Dave Angel’s legendary Original Man, originally released in 1993. “With its innovative rhythm programming and orchestral arrangements, it still feels as groundbreaking now as it did 30 years ago”, Nuno says. 

Closing the compilation is Kurt Baggaley’s Former Self, a 13-minute journey that seems to stretch time itself. As it drifts along, the boundary between reality and dream blurs, leaving listeners suspended in an entrancing, esoteric haze.

11 days after Echoes, SoHaSo will also release Horizons. A compilation of 11 new tracks where the Utrecht-based label looks ahead, to the future.

A Temporal Journey Through Daydreams and Nostalgia...

Dreamu, the alias of Madrid-based experimental musician and producer Fran Sarró, presents nrem, his debut album, a 13-track instrumental LP. Inspired by the N-REM (non-rapid eye movement) N1 sleep phase - the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep where reality begins to blur into dreamlike images - nrem delves into this liminal space. Dreamu's landscape is colored by the melancholy of an idealized past that never existed.

The album, recorded primarily on reel-to-reel tape machines and cassettes, employs techniques such as reversed sounds, tape speed changes, and granular synthesis. Its palette is built from processed electric guitars, pianos, samplers, and field recordings.

nrem is the result of a decade-long journey of personal and sonic exploration, crafted within the intimate space of his home studio in Madrid. Surrounded by cables, effect pedals, and tape machines, Dreamu sketched harmonies and textures while navigating an emotional evolution marked by ups and downs, insecurities, and expectations. Composing became a refuge, where those feelings could crystallize into sounds that honestly reflected his vision.

About the artist: 

Konstantinos, aka Thaddeus, specialises in ambient music inspired by his love for space, science fiction, and futurism. 
Originally from Greece, he began his musical journey at 13, studying music theory and composition. After moving to London in 2011, he immersed himself in music production and performing arts, showcasing his talents as a composer and electronic music performer. His 2018 move to Brooklyn expanded his musical horizons, evolving his live performances with synthesisers, drum machines, and improvisation. Since 2021 in Berlin, Konstantinos shares his ambient music perspective through his releases and the ‘Im Dystopia' mix series, influenced by iconic soundtracks like Blade Runner, composers like Ligeti, and pioneers such as Brian Eno and Steve Roach.

Mesh are pleased to introduce Istanbul-based artist Pleizel, with an immersive four-track EP, Primal Touch, out 15th November.

An accomplished producer and audio engineer with a background in sound design that spans across multiple disciplines, from film music composition to 3D digital arts, she employs a layered understanding of the technicalities behind music creation to craft vast productions untethered to any one genre.

With a strong focus on musicality and a rigorous ear for sonic detail, her debut EP on Mesh is a testament to the meeting of the technical and the emotive.

Label owner Max Cooper said of Pleizel, “From the moment I first heard Pleizel's music there was magic and huge potential there. And when I first saw her live show I was blown away. An amazing musician, producer and performer, I'm excited to see where she goes with it.”

‘Celestial Embrace’ opens with warm, shapeshifting pads that ebb and flow around distant chords with light touches of euphoria, characteristic of the cinematic qualities found in much of Pleizel’s work.

Next up is ‘Liana’ - a track previously released on Mesh’s Lattice 001 compilation - that pairs glitching analogue funk with rising chords. ‘Midnight Horses’ then steps into darker surrounds, with sparse, eerie beeps driven forward by a marching percussive framework.

Rounding off the EP is Affinity Bond; another example of Pleizel’s highly visual sonic paintings, with expansive sound design wandering amongst distorted vocals on top of a hypnotic, irregular rhythmic metre.
