Spring 2018 saw Mexican artist, Hot Tuneik, debut on Proton Music with "Revival". Now returning to the EP, new remixes from esteemed producers provide a fresh new perspective.

The ‘double-headed dragon' that comprises the Lanvary production duo has seen Alex and Andrew become a major force in the electronic music scene. Diverse musical perspectives have seen the pair delight with a musical recipe that combines elements from progressive and deep house with techno flourishes in a distinct and unique sound. Over a century of production credits can be found next to the Lanvary name since an early debut for Underphunk in late 2010. Going on to see their music featured on Stellar Fountain, Mistique Music and Particles, their work for the latter has found success with a trio of original EPs in 2015's "Micromegas", 2016's "Penumbra" and 2017's "Leviathan". Lanvary's work for Proton Music is centred around the superb "Venus" in December 2017, while a pair of remixes for Matter is now followed by a wonderful reworking of "Memories". Hitting hard with dominant beat and ticking off-beat percussion, a sumptuous bass groove quickly makes its presence felt as the melodic elements of the original resonate through the Lanvary interpretation. The pulsating string motifs from Hot TuneiK's track rise and fall throughout and a host of new production material supply dynamic dance-floor credentials to keep club-goers happy with a seamless blend of rhythm and melody.

Hot TuneiK's "Revival" is complete as new remixes from Matter and Lanvary reinvent and revitalise.

A renowned talent with global support from fans and peers alike, Juan Deminicis showcased an array of skills and beautiful melodies with "Life on the Moon". Returning to the EP, new remixes find German, Brazilian and Australian stars firmly in the spotlight.

An artist with a sizeable reputation over a number of years, Christian Wedekind is a name familiar to the underground community with his D-Nox soubriquet. A global DJ phenomenon with performances across his German home from the 1990s onwards and across Brazil, Japan, Mexico and Australia, his work with Beckers saw the duo thrill audiences with mesmerising sets and expertly-crafted sonic voyages. Almost 500 production credits tell their own story across some of the finest imprints that include Suara, Tronic, Bedrock and D-Nox's own, Sprout Music. Supported by a global elite that includes, John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and Dave Seaman, D-Nox joins forces with the multi-talented Brazilian artist, ZAC, himself a renowned DJ and producer featured on the likes of Sony Music and Universal.

Thus, the D-Nox and ZAC remix creates a strong dance-floor intensity as a fast-paced rhythm entices with rapid-fire percussion and rolling snare fills. Building effortlessly, an identity with the original emerges as the familiar melodic refrains of "Life in the Moon" bounce across a near eight-minute piece in new intriguing cadence. Full of melodic flourish at the mid-point breakdown, the driving rhythm and intelligently worked melodic groove hit the heights once again in the third movement.

The powerhouse pairing of Gavin Griffin and Matty Doyle have seen the Australian duo create a magnetic forcefield that has attracted huge support and attention since they first joined forces on the "Superposition" EP for Proton Music in May 2016. Hugely successful in their own rights with original and remix work for both Particles and the flagship imprint, June 2017's "Osmosis" and August 2018's "Interscope" EPs continued to showcase production talent of the highest order. A trio of remixes of Pete K's "Utopia", Andre Sobota's "Unmute" and Rudy's "Time" provided another window on the pair's talent in late 2016, 2017 and 2018 and it is thus a genuine pleasure to welcome them back for a fourth outing on the remix trail.

Supplying yet another moment of magic, GMJ and Matter take "Tao the King" on a sumptuous journey redolent in rolling bass groove and steam-powered white noise effects with their 'Royalty Remix'. A glittering and delayed motif appears at the start of the second movement as a swathe of new counterpoint melodic lines entwine effortlessly with original components. Hitting new heights at a rousing crescendo with pulsating intensity, the track explodes in a glorious rhythmic groove that illustrates precisely why GMJ and Matter are such sought-after producers.

Returning to Proton Music in October 2018, the "Audacity" EP represented Simos Tagias at his finest with two exceptional original tracks. Remixes from a Croatian superstar and Australian mainstay now continue the story.

An undisputed master of his craft, Petar Dundov has represented the underground dance scene with considerable aplomb for over 25 years. With his innovative sound design and unique sonic architecture, the Croatian has been at the vanguard of a genre-defying sound that perhaps identifies most closely to techno for Dundov himself. Melding rhythm and melody in distinctive patterns that have mesmerised global audiences at festivals such as, "I Love Techno" and "EXIT, and clubs including and Tokyo's "Womb" and Berlin's achingly cool "Berghain", work for a plethora of blue-chip imprints has appeared in tandem. Thus, Music Man, Systematic Recordings, Cocoon and Bedrock have all played host to Dundov's iconic sound.

Making his Proton Music debut, the Petar Dundov remix of the title track takes "Audacity" on a rolling groove inspired journey that pulsates gently on a wave of sumptuous pads and familiar motifs from Tagias' original. Evolving elegantly, a searing arpeggio filters into sonic range towards the mid-point before the track explodes in the second half with a huge analogue bassline and intricate percussive cadence full of clave groove. The resultant work is a glorious sonic collage of the highest order.

Gavin Griffin is an artist requiring no introduction to the Proton Music faithful. A producer whose trajectory continues to rise exponentially, his GMJ moniker has been closely linked to the Particles and Proton Music labels with a host of original music, both in solo and collaborative guises. An artist with an acute understanding of the underground music scene, a passion for his craft shines through with his "deep emotive electronic music". Indeed, some 300 production credits feature the GMJ name as his work continues to feed the catalogues of such celebrated imprints as Balkan Connection, Open Records and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat.

A regular on Proton Music with several original EPs alongside fellow Australian, Matter, and a collaboration with iconic Hungarian producer, East Café, October 2017's "Sovereign Reality" saw GMJ make his solo debut with an EP of ambitious scope and immaculate production. Now returning after remixes of Dousk and Nocturna, the GMJ remix of "Elaza" epitomises GMJ's attention to detail as an immaculately polished rhythmic foundation plays host to an array of rich, haunting melodies. Signature motifs from Tagias' original make their presence felt in the second half as they blend seamlessly with GMJ's additional production material – the result is an interpretation that sees the Australian at the top of his artistic endeavours.

Remixes from Petar Dundov and GMJ have the "Audacity" to take Simos Tagias to an even higher level.

Few producers can match the meteoric rise of Kastis Torrau and as the Lithuanian producer returns to Proton Music, “Route 88” opens up with remixes from Belarusian and Dutch stars.

An artist with a 24-carat reputation plus skills and technique to match, Kastis Torrau has been at the cutting edge of underground dance music since he burst onto the scene with Donatello and Arnas D in 2011 – triumphant in the Sasha remix competition for “Cut Me Down”. A subsequent appearance on Last Night On Earth rubber-stamped Torrau’s global status as ‘rising star’, while a string of productions found their way on to Einmusika, Hope Recordings and Black Hole. A regular on Proton Music since August 2014, “Genesis” in collaboration with fellow countryman, Donatello, saw subsequent A-list remixes from Barry Jamieson and Darin Epsilon. Now returning, “Route 88” is characterised by a typically bristling bassline that drives the track relentlessly forward, wrapped around an immaculate and crisp rhythmic shell. Sublime melodic flourishes ripple across the stereo spectrum, building in the breakdown to introduce an exquisite counterpoint phrase before rhythm and bass hit hard again in the third movement.

A true star across his Belarusian home and far beyond its borders, Dmitry Molosh has seen his career skyrocket with his performances across Europe and South America in August 2019. Seeing his music feature on such illustrious labels as Replug, Sudbeat and Plattenbank, supported by such household names as Nick Warren, Guy J and Hernan Cattaneo, he featured on Particles with both original and remix production work in 2014 and ’15. Making his Proton Music debut and reinventing Kastis Torrau, the Dmitry Molosh remix opens with a chest-thumping kick before reprising the bassline so central the original. Before long, a swathe of new production material appears that introduces new melodic structures and phrases that reach their zenith at the breakdown with beautiful piano notes and sumptuous pad textures. Hitting its stride in the third movement, all elements combine to create a wonderful new “Route 88”.

Always in demand with their imaginative work for the likes of EIN2, Traum and Mango Alley, Huminal’s relationship with Particles and Proton Music has seen the Dutch duo feature with a host of original music. After a debut remixing Nikko.Z in June 2015, the twin-track “Knocking on the Sky” followed before “We Dwell in the Past” arrived with a bang a year later and “Macropsia” came into view in October 2018. Always at the cutting edge of sound design, The Huminal remix is as immaculate as it is elegant with a raft of intelligent production techniques that sees “Route 88” build with trademark momentum across the seven-minute track. A filtered and gated analogue bass pattern rises and falls throughout while a gloriously produced breakdown sequence ripples with a new melodic sequence that gently pulsates. Rhythmic and melodic groove then join forces again in the second half to devastating effect.

With a beautifully smooth and powerful track, Kastis Torrau drives effortlessly along “Route 88” with remixes from Dmitry Molosh and Huminal.

Clubsonica Records begins the new year by welcoming Juan Demincis back to the label for a new EP. The Buenos Aires resident first appeared on the Colombian imprint in October of 2017 with his well received 'Now Is Never' EP. Long a favourite of progressive music's top tastemakers, Juan has released on the genre's finest imprints with Guy J's Lost and Found Records and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music both being regular homes for the Argentine. Now getting the new year underway in style, Juan returns to Clubsonica with 'Light Of Consciousness | Dogma' alongside remixes from Juan Pablo Torrez and Kamilo Sanclemente and Ziger.

'Light Of Consciousness' finds Juan at his creative best with a deep, brooding production that's nicely dialled for the dance floor. Punchy beats and a full, rolling groove anchor the piece, as devilish motifs, astral arps and stunning effects adorn the framework. Not without emotive moments, timely chord changes add a poignant charm as the first act progresses, building momentum with each successive loop, as a tension filled tone initiates the main break. Tasteful modulation furthers the narrative, adding anticipation before eventually melting down to a powerful drop and emotionally stirring finale. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor are the peak time grooves of 'Dogma'. Sonically charged, it's rolling low end and buzzing rhythms unite for the ultimate energy inducing foundation. Elastic stabs and wavering tones add dynamic moments, while layers of percussion continue to push momentum forward. Otherworldly effects strike at opportune moments, before a stripped down second act pushes an esoteric theme onwards to a powerful finale.

The lone interpretation of 'Light Of Consciousness' is provided by Juan Pablo Torrez and Kamilo Sanclemente. The former sits as Clubsonica's much loved label boss, having earned praise from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while landing releases on Beatfreak and Parquet Recordings. Acting as one of the label's AandR's, Kamilo Sanclemente has developed into one of progressive music's brightest stars. Much like Juan, the Cali resident is a favourite of the genre's top guard, while laying claim to releases on Einmusika, Hope Recordings and Proton Music. Perhaps most famously collaborating on an unofficial, yet hugely popular interpretation of Opus 3's seminal 'It's A Fine Day', Juan and Kamilo now bring their creative talents together once again for a stunning take on 'Light Of Consciousness'. The foreboding vibe of the original is well maintained, as a reworked groove anchors its pulsating core. Fluid and rhythmic in equal measure, a cascading motif fades to prominence, sitting against a tension filled tone, before melting down into a heartfelt break and perfectly segueing into an exhilarating final act.

Rounding out the release and providing the lone interpretation of 'Dogma' is Ziger. The Greek artist has been enjoying the best year of his career, led by his 'Faded Realm' single which launched his Eat My Hat imprint and enjoyed a month long stay a top Beatport's Progressive House Hype tracks chart. Also laying claim to 2019 releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Eleatics Records, Ziger now debuts on Clubsonica with a superb rendition of 'Dogma'. Taking a cue from the original, the energy proves to be just as palpable here. A reworked groove ripples with powerful momentum, as fiery effects and astral sonics steal the air. Piercing stabs and clustered melodies play off each other beautifully, eventually stripping down into the main break, where wispy atmospherics add further intrigue, before a tasteful roll ignites a cosmic finale. It caps off what is an incredible start to the new year for Clubsonica, with all four artists delivering some of their finest work ever.

EDGE begins their 2020 journey with a much-anticipated collaboration from Hermanez and Eran Aviner. Hailing from Belgium and making his label debut is Hermanez. Initially known for his timeless, tech-soul productions on Mobilee Records, Noir Music and Suara, the Genk resident has enjoyed a career renaissance in recent years, remodelling his sound with deeper, more musical and wonderfully organic leanings. It's a shift that has landed him releases on the movement's premiere imprints, most notably All Day I Dream, Lost & Found, Shanti Radio Moscow and TRYBESof. Also laying claim to an impressive discography is EDGE co-founder Eran Aviner. The Belgian artist has showcased his music on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, while also being regarded as one of his country's most astute DJs. Having worked together once previously on a chart topping remix for Sound Avenue, Hermanez and Eran now present their debut EP via EDGE entitled 'Arias'.

Beginning what promises to be a fruitful year for both artists are the pure progressive sensibilities of 'Aria'. Captivating from the start, it's perfectly sculpted beats are warm and powerful, anchoring what is a rippling, free flowing foundation. Crafted with precision and care, layers of hypnotic percussion are blanketed with textural drifts, ghostly pads and fragmented melodies. Intrigue peaks as the main break unfolds, with hazy harmonic concepts and metallic melodies uniting for an exhilarating crescendo, before ushering in a groovy drop and hypnotic finale.

The journey continues with the reflective moods of 'Storyteller'. Nicely tied to the ethos of the EP, Hermanez and Eran marry haunting vocal refrains with meditative rhythms and tranquil textures. It's a spiritual and highly engaging storyboard, perhaps the EP's most impassioned in fact, a creation for the road home and no doubt a highly memorable selection for your dance floor.

The release is capped off in fine fashion with the chunky vibes of 'First Touch'. Immediately compelling, it's shapely bass tones and dynamic percussion play off a robust rhythmic core, making for a smooth, hip swinging groove. Its musical appeal grows subtly, as pixie-like motifs and luminous tones add an emotive slant to what is an already magical storyboard. Expertly timed, it's chugging energy melts down into a break of effervescent lines and shifty harmonics, building into a wall of melodic colour, before getting washed away in a rush of beats and percussion for a charming third movement. Groovy and emotive in equal measure, it rounds out what is an exceptional collection of music from Hermanez and Eran, one which sees the duo's creative synergy continue to grow.

His sonically precise remix portfolio is extensive and includes – just scratching the surface – Sia, Daft Punk, Felix, The Doors, Björk, Pet Shop Boys, Dua Lipa and Najwa Nimri, amongst many others. A man of numerous artistic aliases, he has reinvigorated his legendary Castle Trancelott guise (whose ‘The Gloom’ on the legendary Sasha & Digweed ‘Northern Exposure’ mix comp made a huge impression on the Russian Linesman back in 1998) to create an outstanding remix. 

The Soundgarden’s electronic figurehead, Nick Warren, has re-connected with rising Argentinian superstar Nicolas Rada for their contribution to this bold remix venture. Nick’s place in the dance music halls of fame is well established and for Nicolas, the journey is still just unfolding, and their unique creative chemistry is in full flow here.

Each EP in the Russian Linesman’s ‘Monomyth’ EP series (from which this remix project has evolved)is named after the relevant part of the Hero’s Journey (referenced from Joseph Campbell’s fascinating book ‘A Hero with a Thousand Faces’. The Monomyth, or Hero's Journey, is the common template of a broad category of storytelling that involves a hero who goes on an adventure, and in a decisive crisis wins a victory, then comes home changed or transformed. The Russian Linesman’s own unique adventure will continue soon with “Monomyth IV –Apotheosis”.

From a storied city, youthful fascination saw Starkato "Wake Up" to electronic music. Blossoming with techno brilliance, fizzing synthesised lines crackle in summer lightning strikes. A menacing bassline looms large over Berlin, panning LFOs reveal an omnipresence against a powerful metrical backdrop. Cold and motionless, circuitry is brought to life in "Parada" where an analogue narrative continues through the German capital. Warm motifs pulsate in waves across ancient architecture as the beating heart of a city at European centre is mirrored in metronomic pulse.

Radiating light across the Mediterranean, Ampish shines brightly over Alexandria. Sonic waves glisten across the seas in percussive rhythms, a siren rouses all from night-time reverie. "Wake Up" reinterpreted in dynamic fashion from an Egyptian star in ascendance, as powerful chords and emotive patterns flourish. Returning with typical aplomb, Tantum brings "Parada" to life with passion and emotion. A rippling arpeggio explodes into life alongside powerful bassline presence and machine-gun fire percussion. Karlsruhe is the epicentre of creative virtuosity where rhythm and melody combine in symbiotic harmony.

Continuing what has been a strong collaborative partnership, Ezequiel Arias and Artfaq return to Cid Inc's Replug Records for a new EP. Based in Cordoba, Ezequiel Arias sits firmly amongst progressive music's elite, with releases on Anjunadeep, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden highlighting his discography, along with support from the genre's premiere tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Similarly, Nacho Ferroni and Nacho Varela aka Artfaq also hail from Cordoba and lay claim to an impressive resume, showcasing their music on Sudbeat and The Soundgarden. Having made their collaborative debut with the 'Babel' EP via Replug in February of 2019, the trio now unite once again for a much-anticipated follow-up entitled 'Aerial'.  

As progressive music continues to evolve, it's artists like Ezequiel Arias and Artfaq who continue to push the genre's creative envelope. 'Aerial' is a prime example of this with its unique contrast of rhythm and musicality. A bed of warm, rippling bass lays the foundation for a blend of meditative motifs and creamy tones. Building subtly through an evolving sheet of granular haze and timely effects, its tranquil tension comes to full fruition during the main break, before perfectly segueing into a percussive drop and driving finale. 

The second selection 'Duality' moves closer to peak time with edgier design and dramatic undertones. Pulsating and energetic, it's a creation built around tough beats, acidic rhythms and razor-sharp effects. Its relentless drive becomes infectious across the first act, perfectly setting the stage for a shift in narrative, as striking overlays highlight a cavernous break, splitting moods between the tense and emotive, eventually melting down into a dominant third act.  

The release is capped off in excellent fashion with the subversive vibes of 'Varial'. Traditional sensibilities get set aside here, as the trio marry hazy harmonics with esoteric lines over a robust and imminently groovy foundation. Tranquil and trippy in equal measure, the near two-minute centrepiece gradually heightens the senses through tasteful modulation and slow burning percussion, before getting washed away in a rush of white noise for a rhythmically charged finale.

With the 'Aerial' EP Ezequiel Arias and Artfaq add a second chapter to their creative synergy. One which continues to push the boundaries of progressive music and thus solidifying their place at the forefront of the genre's movement.
