The 17th release of katharsis is the EP “Digital Séance” by Australian artist Sugar Ross. The album was created in the period of harsh lockdown due to the pandemic situation in Australia, which influenced the artist in various directions both in terms of the methodological and the thematic approach to composing, resulting in a unique style of experimental ambient music. Comprising of six tracks, the release is framed by the conceptual approach of exclusively consisting of heavily manipulated samples recorded directly from digital and analogue radio. 

This conceptual approach of repurposing audio material from radio signals speaks directly into the theme of cyclicality in all life, matter and existence, described in Buddhism as Samsara. Simultaneously, the methodology was inspired by the parapsychological concept of the electronic voice phenomenon, which is the idea that electronic sound recordings of noise and static can be used as a method of identifying supernatural entities. Finally, the artist was living in an area of hard rubbish collection during this harsh lockdown, which gave further inspirations from waste culture and the idea of recycling.

When the pandemic is over you'll be sure to find FUJ turning out dark, sweaty rooms in basements, warehouses and lofts. This Chicago born wizard is practicing some sort of warped magic on the dancefloor. Prior to March when the world as we know it stopped, FUJ and ALTVR (otherwise known as DJ Neiman Marcus)were hosting, performing and curating The Comfort Hole, a monthly held at the haunted punk rock bar, The Liar's Club. In my opinion, a perfect venue for their heavy, rebellious brand of techno and dance music. We are hyped to present the debut EP of the Swiss duo Gated Boyhood, already known as Mr. Peña and Dizco Joe. The music is a tribute to the old days when we used to dance together down in the rave cave, transferred to the present and ready to provide this feeling to both old connoisseurs as well as the new generation. We hope you enjoy this one, it’s one of the most deeply rooted projects of our label, involving many lovely people.

The tape comes in a jewel case and with a temporary tattoo, including exclusive tape-only material and will be released together with the digitals on December 15th, 2020.
