Toyacoyah is an avid record collector who started DJing in the late 90s hosting a drum n’ bass radio show at the University of Oklahoma. After graduating she moved to Austin, Texas where she continued pushing the drum n’ bass sound at raves and clubs throughout Texas, Colorado, California, and even internationally in Brazil. While in Austin, she was one of the original resident DJs for Mental Note, a night dedicated to liquid funk + jazzy drum n’ bass at Plush nightclub. 

After a brief hiatus due to motherhood, she’s back playing the music she loves for folks across the Midwest and is now affiliated with Proper Chicago, Tao of Amen Productions, and Siren Project. She’s grateful to have played alongside many of her favorite DJs (Addison Groove, Andy C, Drumagick, Fabio, LTJ Bukem, Random Movement, and Sam Binga) and looks forward to what the future holds! Expect to hear a full spectrum of bass sounds in her DJ sets including electro, breaks, juke, jungle, and footwork.

JS Alvarez is a shape shifting lizard that succumbs to no one genre and can be found exploring the depths of mutant techno and unruly bass music alike. He is the founding member of Research & Development. ﻿What started as a monthly event series at Smartbar took on a new path with a biweekly mix series focused on nurturing new sounds, experiences and atmospheres while exploring the music and culture it was born or mutated from. Find him at Podlasie Club or sweaty basements and warehouses in Chicago and beyond.

Immersed in music from an early age, the man like Obsidian Wave was born and raised in London. Coming up through the Jungle and Hardcore era, surrounded by pirate radio and illegal raves, these sounds are interlaced into his heavy, raw brand of techno and breaks to create a cutting edge sound with strong ties to the past.

Working as a Solo Artist and a quarter of the Rave Collective - 'We Kill Culture'.

Based in Chicago, R&D is a music event/mix series focused on nurturing new sounds, experiences and atmospheres while exploring the music and culture it was born or mutated from. Techno, electro, EBM, bass, breaks, club and beyond.
