Bio - Late night / early morning sets have been Niki Kitz’s forte ever since the beginning of her music career. She cut her teeth hosting and DJing at unconventional late night events with the Foshizzle Family in Madison, WI and she continued down this rabbit hole with a relocation to Milwaukee. There she joined the Apart artist collective and co-founded Plush Works, a DIY music space and after hours venue. With a whimsical yet powerful style, she has left her mark across the Midwest, from warehouses in Chicago, to Movement after-parties in Detroit, to open air psytrance festivals in Missouri and many dance floors in between. Since moving to Minneapolis in 2017, she’s established herself as a household name within the underground community, playing notable sets at SYSTEM and Intellephunk parties. She also produces ambient and experimental music under her Kiisu moniker and recently released her first full length album, “Mother of Dirt,” on the Portland-based label, Disposable Commodities.

For the 97th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome Baronhawk Poiter (@baronhawkpoitier)! Growing up in PG County, Maryland nestled between Baltimore and Washington, DC shaped life for artist Baronhawk Poitier. Listening to local radio stations and sorting through records while working at The Record Exchange heavily influenced his pursuit of a career as a producer and DJ. He was recognized alongside mentor Kris Klayton aka Karizma/ Kaytronik with a grant from the National Endowment of Arts for electronic music production. Baronhawk expresses his passion for cultural preservation and education working with dance legends at the nonprofit culture and education project Urban Artistry, Inc. He has also earned a name for himself within the LGBTQIA+ dance music community as a member of the unique DC based queer artist collective “The NeedleExchange,” who are known for their independent events, raves and DJ residencies. 

In February of this year, we hosted Baronhawk for the Not Mass weekly stream. His outstanding mix blew us all a way and served as a beautiful 90 minute escape of house and funk. Baronhawk radiates joy; you can always count on him to bring a smile to your face.

Amsterdam-based abh & Hoff, the masterminds behind the wonderful "Far Blue" record label and podcast series, curated our latest "Delayed with..." music tale.
Imagine drifting through a moonlit forest dappled with fireflies and the low hum of cicadas. That's the vibe – lulling, dreamy, and alive with subtle magic. Lush atmospheres unfurl like velvet curtains.
Four-on-the-floor rhythms pulse like a steady heartbeat, then melt into broken beats that pirouette like autumn leaves. Familiar names like Shoal and DJ Balduin shimmer like constellations while hidden gems flicker like fireflies and dance with melodies laden with unspoken intrigue.
The mix crescendos and takes a playful detour down an acid-tinged path. Imagine Alice tumbling down a rabbit hole of sound, where playful blips and bloops dance in the stardust. It's a whimsical prelude to the perfect finale – Leafar Legov's "Fade" washes over you like a warm wave, the perfect closing note to this auditory adventure.

Tripped-out excursions through percussive club music with the Nowadays resident.

Ayesha Chugh, AKA Ayesha, makes club music that activates the body. The Brooklyn-based artist has spent the last few years carving out a distinct lane in modern club music. Her fusion of dubstep, techno and essential '90s rave elements into dynamite club tools that test and support dancers in equal measure. This time though, for her RA Podcast, Chugh purposefully tilts in a "more colorful wonky direction."

Since first turning heads with releases on labels like Fever AM and Kindergarten Records, she’s continued to refine a sound that feels both playful and punishing, marked by writhing basslines, rumbling drums and an innate ability to make bodies move. Her productions capture a kind of kinetic precision—tracks that are slippery yet forceful, balancing psychedelic textures with dubstep-like physicality and club-focused power. As Andrew Ryce wrote of her debut, Rhythm is Memory, her skill is "full of textures that wrap around the otherwise thudding, sub-heavy kick drums." After a serious accident in 2024 stopped her in her tracks, this year marks a full return to global touring with a new vantage point on life and the sound she seeks to push.

RA.983, clocking in at nearly two and a half hours, finds Chugh flexing that club muscle once again. Offering a tour through global club music both old and new, it's based around a set at her home base Nowadays this February. It's a patient but relentless ride: from deep, tunneling psytrance, progressive techno and slippery electro before really turning on the gas at the half mark, moving into slanted UK techno territory.

As she explains in the Q&A, it's a carefully curated selection of tracks that probes "what we perceive as tasteful." It's a mix that speaks to her deep knowledge of dance music’s lineage—and her intuitive ability to push it forward.
