just-us records is a collaborative dig, online shop, and sometimes record label by Bill Spencer, who lives in detroit and Izaak, who lives in San Francisco. the two of them dj frequently in their respective cities and occasionally elsewhere. their mutual obsession with and love of all kids of sound has catapulted them, together, through the vastness of recorded music and the possibilities of sharing it with others. this particular mix is put together from a multi-year effort to explore the worlds of independently-produced R&B, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, etc. etc. from the CD/PC era of the early 00’s. We hope you enjoy just as much as we did!

"It contains only music used in films from 1987-2001: Chungking Express, Lost Highway, Opera, Perfect Blue, Trainspotting, Leon: The Professional, Fallen Angels, Cruel Intentions, Hackers, Johnny Mnemonic, Cool World, Strange Days, Ghost In The Shell, and more. Perhaps there's some commonality there. I wanted to conceptualise this mix in this way as movies have really been resonating with my songwriting at the moment, and I wanted to celebrate particular films that have been extra inspirational for that process.”"

Tornado Wallace aka Lewie Day is a Berlin-based producer, DJ, and musician whose genre-spanning dance sets and studio releases are loosely defined by their generous ambience and cinematic immersiveness. Appropriately, every song here is pulled from a Letterboxd lover’s delight of international films.

You'll find your memory pleasantly jogged as these songs are given new context here. Sensual trip hop lamentations and shoegazing walls of guitar find common ground, and when’s the last time you heard Faye Wong and U2 in the same mix? These songs pull from the well of cultural nostalgia and, yet, the sum of their parts feels half a step ahead of the zeitgeist.

Hello there, 

Hereby presenting the 8th installament of Dee Dee’s Picks on Fade Radio. This month’s broadcast serves as an hommage to Der Kern bar, a bar situated on the Langestrasse in Zurich. This bar is particuarly significant to me as it was the starting point for many of my endeavours with Dee Dee's Picks in the Swiss German part. A venue, where laughs were shared, passion for records were enthused and bottomless beer glasses were consumed, is where I met many people that eventually got released or featured as a guest on my radio shows. Der Kern bar holds a special place in my heart, as I am sure to many others. Therefore the selection behind this mix revolves around the many records that we have played throughout the many evenings at Der Kern. A personal "best of" selecta, if you will.

Taking over behind the decks for this month's broadcast could not be fitted more adequatly with Fabian Stacoff aka Max Bunt. Fabian has been the face not only responsible behind the genesis of Der Kern logo, but also the preacher of obscure records that served as the soundtrack of many evenings through his residency at Der Kern.
