Introspection est une émission qui a lieu une fois par mois sur les ondes de Station Station, il s’agit d’un voyage à travers la musique présenté par Stephen Cacique. L’idée est de partager de la musique de toute époque et de tout styles confondus pendant une heure. Parfois, des artistes viennent présenter leurs labels ou leur projet musical et ont carte blanche pour s’exprimer musicalement pendant cette heure.

The online radio station Retreat Radio has acted as a unifying force on the underground scene in Malmö for close to a decade and now offers its first compilation of original music from its vast community.

A community grown exponentially like a virus, with Retreat Radio as the source of infection, comprised of artists in various stages of despair revelling in hazy ambient, angular industrial rhythms and post-dub influences. Now bringing you 24 tracks of frog-induced head music made for a sad generation that wanted to be club kids but had no club to go to.

Many - if not all - of the names behind this mammoth of a compilation are Retreat residents with current or past monthly shows on the programme. Many of whom have walked the stark lit street at the outskirts of town at night to climb a spiral staircase above a carwash to play their shows.

Loosely centered around the interpretation of dub as a genre, the compilation hand-picks a curation of tracks which nonetheless point to a coherent vision: that of dub as a vital cornerstone in the development of new music reflecting on an urban post-capitalist environment.

Nessim is currently based in Amsterdam. He is a resident at Echobox Radio (@echoboxradio) and Murmur (@murmur.ams), and will be launching a record label in 2025.

Vinyls, k7, cd-rom and field recordings mixture recorded by Léon aka Research Wax from the Toulouse-based record shop Casemate, specialist in second-hand electronic music and everything between to b-side.
Two hours in the middle of a bayou accompanied by the mage Ray-B for the first ceremonial part, meeting forgotten cults with drone, psychedelic mantra and fractured bells. For the second hour, I continue our exploration in the swamp with sounds reminiscent of voodoo jazz and spiritual breaks buried beneath the muddy soil. Bon voyage!

Her favorite concert, the year before the accident. The details, a little blurrier with each retelling. The t-shirt, a little thinner with each cycle through the machines. The memories, slowly transforming into lint.

Disquiet 0695 invited us to take a piece of our own music and put it through a metaphorical dryer. What would be cast off, and what would remain?

I decided to start with "Mise-en-scene", the piece that I made back in September for prompt #0665: a glitchy, minimalist homage to Achim Szepanski. The original track featured a Møffenzeef Mødular Stargazer drone synth performance over complex 5/4 rhythmic patterns voiced with drum machine samples. 

To put the piece through the dryer, I decided to underlay a more regular and machine-like rhythm (an 8-bar 4/4 percussion part) and make the song get thinner over time. The 4/4 under 5/4 made for some interesting polyrhythms. I thinned out the song by slowly converging the cutoff frequencies of low- and hi-pass filters applied to all of the original tracks. By the end, nothing is left but the 4/4 rhythm of the machine winding down.
