Actually, an acoustic example would be false fingerings on a saxophone (or similar). You can change the waveform of a specified pitch (albeit more subtly) and produce a similar effect.

I believe this trick is used as a refinement in the organ-like prelude of Bloody Tears from Castlevania 2, something like 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 in the duty-cycle instrument editor to round out the 0 12 12 12 12 12 12 octave arp in pulse 1 channel.

Q: How do we avoid having these issue with the tempo, whereby there's a "compensation" note here and there? Are there "safe" settings to make sure it doesn't happen?
