"Common Ground started with the idea that the two speakers are characters getting to know each other.  I thought a lot about who they were, what they wanted from each other, and what influence they had on each other. It’s a piece about exploring difference, about how friendships and relationships can sometimes reinforce our existing traits, but often require us to change.  In my experience, the latter is true of more meaningful connections.  I think my characters are curious about each other.  They interact with each other playfully, furtively at first before finding their way to common ground and celebrating it."
