Dennis Cruz delivers the landmark 300th release on Damian Lazarus’ iconic Crosstown Rebels imprint with ‘The Snake Charmer’ EP, featuring collaborations with Ian Ludvig and the label boss himself.

An artist at the height of his powers, arriving off the back of his busiest Ibiza season to date, it’s safe to say that Dennis Cruz is a man in extremely high demand within the global electronic landscape. Founder of his own labels MÜSE and CRZ, while featuring as a key member of the Solid Grooves Family, Cruz’s longstanding ties to Crosstown Rebels date back to his debut in 2018, featuring as a regular on the label and at their extensive global events from fabric London to Miami’s renowned Get Lost extravaganza since. Returning to the imprint following his excellent album ‘Roots’ in 2021, plus his recent contribution to the 20th Anniversary compilation with his remix of Pier Bucci’s ‘Hay Consuelo’, Cruz is back in emphatic fashion as he marks the 300th release in the label’s revered catalogue with his latest EP ‘The Snake Charmer’ - featuring two solo tracks alongside collaborations with fellow Crosstown signee Ian Ludvig and label founder Damian Lazarus himself.

A master of crafting rolling arrangements with subtle nuances that keep dancefloors locked in unison, the four tracks across the package see Cruz experiment even further as he showcases a global array of influences. Opening track ‘Snake Charmer’ welcomes a crisp organic percussion arrangement accented by eastern flutes through to snaking grooves and hooky female vocal samples throughout, while ‘Revolution’ welcomes an all-star cast as he links with Damian Lazarus for a heady, skippy slice of house merging hazy chords and bright stabs with vocals from contemporary Detroit nightlife icon and staple DJ Holographic.

On the flip, the Spaniard once again steps out solo and dives deep into a low-slung and playful groove on ‘Time Out’, introducing a wealth of vibrant vocals amongst blossoming melodies and soulful organ riffs, before closing the show as he joins Ian Ludvig to present an off-kilter, impactful and warping closer guided by provocative vocal snippets across ‘Pain Away’.

PREMIERE: Franco Strato - Stay The Night [Esuoh]

In the year that Leipzig label Moon Harbour celebrates 15 years in operation, it is not slowing down its new release schedule. Here comes the third in as many months, and it is another stunner from Re.You, aka German talent Marius Maier with a remix by Butch.
 
Maier debuted on the label in 2014 and also frequents the likes of Mobilee and Souvenir. His slick and slinky sound is perfectly suited to the label as it makes people dance as well as offering off kilter samples and sound design, and that’s exactly the case again here.
 
His one great original is ‘Very Very’, a prying house track with well defined drums tumbling over paranoid bass. Firm claps and tough hits add muscle to the weird synth sounds and all sorts of squelches, water droplets and weird voices ensure it will make for some freaky moments on the dance floor.
 
Butch, the hugely prolific German Turk known for his tracks on Cocoon and with Ricardo Villalobos, boils the original down to a steamy brew of drums and percussive layers that takes you deep into the night. Finally, "Try" from Re.You is a beautifully drunken sounding track with bulbous synth drops, blurting machine sounds and pixelated chords that add texture and main room energy to the cantering, pinging drums. It’s another real winner.
 
Once again here Moon Harbour have unearthed some fresh tech beats that are sure to soundtrack your summer in memorable style.

On the flipside, there’s reinterpretations of Hurricane from two very promising young acts championed by Souvenir. Re.You has had an incredible year, his live with Rampa travelling all over, and hits on Gigolo, Mobilee and Souvenir to name but a few. Here he toughens up the skittering shakers, techy drums patterns driving it all forward. A robotic squelch heralds in the vocal with a magic phaser ray liberally applied to the instrumentation, turning the weirdness dial up to 11.

We’re still recovering from our big FIVE OH milestone, but the music never stops and this time we have something new from Souvenir wunderkind Re.You. 

It’s been a pretty wild year for Marius Maier AKA Re.You, his live with Rampa debuting at Fabric at our label take over, plus dropping a massive 12” on Gigolo, plus solo releases on Avotre, Mobilee and of course his home away from home, Souvenir. This time round he brings the funk on ‘Insanity’ with a trademark, treated vocal serving from LIA. The track brings it real close, close enough for breath to from little droplets of condensation against a cold window. A niggling percussive interplay sends the track reeling all over the dancefloor, various creaks and whistles playing off each other until a solid bassline swoops in meaning business. What’s known in the industry as a straight weapon! ‘Lonely’ follows with a more frantic tempo, a small drum pattern loops, throwing you with its slightly skewed beat. Some techy snares build the tension while some off key chords supply the haunted melody. 

On the flip Re.You brings it down a notch, going straight deep house. Again, his masterful use of ethereal vocal samples build both mood and drive the beat. An unintelligible phrase phasing out of sync until what seems like a percussive denouement, the bassline returning with gusto for a serious second round. ‘Closer’ gets a much more upbeat rework from Southern French producers Amine Edge & DANCE. They keep the vocal sample as a skeleton, but build up the track in much bubblier fashion, a playful synth line earworms while a chunky, dancefloor-friendly bassline punctuates the whole thing.

Paul C has honed his production skills since the mid ‘90’s and his energetic brand of tech-house has seen him release on a host influential labels. Since 2009 the pair have worked tirelessly in the studio and not only seen their music supported by many of the industry’s biggest names like Marco Carola, Loco Dice, DJ Sneak and many more...
Now they're coming for a massive EP on Cécille Numbers. The label founder Nick Curly and Marc Scholl just could not choose any favorite track and decided to take four tracks on one EP.
