Sonar Kollektiv preps for summer with a big selection of remixes of Pete Josef tunes by stalwarts Jazzanova, Feiertag, Friend Within and Quintin Copper as well as Josef himself.

Sonar Kollektiv served up Pete Josef's second album ​I Rise With The Birds in Autumn last year and it remains a standout collection of jaunty soul, pop and dance tunes from the blue-eyed soul singer from Bristol. Now the tunes get reimagined for different contexts firstly by label heads Jazzanova, the long time masters of many different synths, instruments and sounds. Their expressive take on 'Giants' is ​all shimmering chords and broken beats primed for early evening outdoor dancing.

Feiertag is the alter ego of the Dutch live-act Joris Feiertag. Recording and performing since 2015, his sound can be described as electronic yet warm, and with a preference for innovative syncopated rhythms combined with fragments of instruments such as the harp and kalimba. 2021 will see the release of his debut album after a string of well received singles. Here he turns Josef’s 'Giants' into a superbly slow motion workout with reverberating kicks, claps and warped vocals all bringing sensuousness to the trumpet laced groove. UK talent Friend Within has been in the scene for over a decade and has a house sound that has taken him to Dirtybird and Hypercolour and put him at the forefront of a new wave of UK artists. His brilliant rework is party ready, with up beat grooves and florid sax lines bringing jazzy, soulful notes and good times.

It is then Pete himself who reworks 'This Sun', flipping it into a lively house track with a killer bassline and plenty of percussive Latin flair and more fantastic wind leads. As a digital bonus, Quintin Copper - a man known for his ability to jam on vintage synths, various instruments and draw on his love of soul, funk and jazz - serves up a deliciously deep dub of 'Mainframe' with romantic sax lines and funky bass.

This is a high grade remix package that ensures these fantastic tunes will have a new lease of life this summer and beyond.

The New Age Orchestra was originally released as a 50 copies only vinyl in 1989 and made by Danes: Kenneth Bager, Lasse Mosegaard Camilla & Charlotte Wisøfeldt. In 2013 the famous record shop Red Light Records re-discovered it. Antal, Gerd Janson Young Marco, Jan Schulte, Radio Slave, started to play it again.

'The Ship of Love' is the story of 16-year-old Troels Hammer, who sailed home from Mozambique back in 1981.

The journey was to South Africa. Due to machine problems, it took Troels and the crew a few weeks to get through the Indian Ocean and the Mozambique Channel. Troels finally arrived in South Africa and the crew were able to get assistance.

During the three weeks of repair work, Troels met a wonderful South African woman and they fell madly in love. A love that was interrupted when Troels left again... Into the Atlantic... Into life...

This is the essence of Troels' tune 'The Ship Of Love'. A story about meeting something in life that remains unredeemed, and which then drifts around in one's thoughts and emotional life like a driftwood from the past.

After the Italo-wave bomb "Máquina Del Ritmo", Bufi is back with the second single from his upcoming album 'Mexico 70'. 

"Hillalum (Amazonica)" is a powerful mix of African-American rhythms, psychedelia and analog electronics, that tells the journey of a brave Amazons warrior through the big city, and the sexist pressure that it exerts over her without mercy. 

The single is accompanied by a b-side called "La Fuerza", that includes the collaboration of Mexican vocalist and guitarist Alejandra Moreno (Ruido Rosa / Disco Ruido). 

The artwork is also the first collaboration between Bufi and the Portuguese visual artist Bráulio Amado.

Expositions is a one-man (Reuben Vaun Smith) band that’s been slowly gaining force as a wave ready to hit every Balearic beach and beyond. Yellow Haze hits the Forest Jams label with four complete burners of tunes, so hot you can smell the sun-block melting away. Smith along with the mysterious “Hannah” lay down some serious laid back vibes with their vocals that fit the backing of “Get With You” just perfectly. Rollerskaters is an instrumental that has us up off the beach and onto the boardwalk for a freestyle rollerskating dance session. Sun Shine Down has Smith back on vocals and the title speaks for itself. Walk along the water of the Pacific has the sun is going down to this one for full effect. Holding On closes out what you’d wish to be an endless summer. Look out for more from the man soon!

After much anticipation, our Belgian disco diamonds Rheinzand present their debut full-length album. On their self-titled record, The Belgian trio wraps the human heart in synthetic threads of modular electronic disco. 9 songs writhing on timeless dancefloors, morphing in and out of shapes of luxuriant melody and vivid instrumentation.

The album is full of classic disco and electro sounds, wielded with imposing prowess by multi- instrumentalist Reinhard Vanbergen. It’s both an exploration of dance music’s electronic genealogy and the vintage cool that has defined its different eras. Still, an organic atmosphere pervades as the blend of real instrumentation fixes a sort of retro-futurism, imagining an alternative timeline that’s a bit more exciting, more sensuous and libidinal, maybe more human, too, than our current outlook.

We start the engines with Break of Dawn, a compelling beat rises from the basement and soon we’re submerged by the pulsing bassline. Dark sunglasses on, we cruise through the night, letting flashing city lights flow into unbroken torrents of color. Blind awakens us, a splash of handclaps in the face, vivid strings and Charlotte’s trademark slick vocals enter the stage. Tantalizing sunbeams power up circuits of electronic synths blipping and beeping away.

Later down the road, we hit the Latin part of town. Porque fits enchanting vocal spells in beautiful Spanish on playful flamenco rhythms. Fourteen Again is a throwback to early electro, playing around with knobs and buttons. An oscillating synth imagines new worlds of plastic

emotion. Still disco and still very cool, though. A constant velocity is sustained throughout the album by this recurring locomotive synth, trudging away beneath the action. Once in a while, we hear the deep, mighty, trembling voice of Mr. Rheinzand speaking to us in incantations. Someone’s pulling the strings here.

On Slippery People, the trio cover the Talking Heads classic in a characteristic procedure of bouncy funk. We’re swirled around by the delirious glasswork of You Don’t Know Me into the hypnagogic funk noir of Strange World. Drifting through the house of mirrors after the fourth mojito.

Obey collects all these threads in a full-bodied future classic disco anthem, before Queen of The Dawn wraps up the show with a sky-bound epic of operatic choirs and ceremonious drums that lands somewhere between Kate Bush’s Aerial and Peter Gabriel’s most bombastic.

Strange World

Rheinzand is a collaborative project between Reinhard Vanbergen, the multi-instrumentalist producer, Charlotte Caluwaerts (Tundra) and Mo Disko from the renowned duo ‘The Glimmers.’ Live on stage they are accompanied by Stéphane Misseghers (dEUS) on drums and Bruno Coussée (MannGold) on bass.

Rheinzand’s music is a mixture of styles inspired by dance music’s rich history. Their songs give nods to old & new genres, forgotten & popular scenes in order to create their own take on today’s musical landscape.

Their exotic & eclectic style caught the ears of Danish label ‘Music For Dreams’ on which they released their debut self titled album in March 2020. Piccadilly Records (Manchester) voted the album number 1 album of the year 2020 and Phonica (London) gave them a well-deserved place in their top 50 of best albums of 2020. 

 Tracks from the album such as ‘Blind’ were championed by DJ Harvey during his summer residency at Pikes Ibiza, and the band have had tracks on the first two volumes of his Mercury Rising compilations.

The singles ‘Kills & Kisses’, ‘Obey’ & ‘Slippery People’ (their fantastic cover of Talking Heads’ classic) has further demonstrated their unique and flawless production that is capturing the hearts and dance-floors around the world.
As the live music industry held its breath for a year due to covid, the band didn’t get the chance to bring the first album to a club or festival near you. 

Nevertheless, they used that time well and wrote a second album, titled ‘Atlantis Atlantis’. Still using the same ingredients, you can hear an evolution in song writing, the use of different languages and more song-based structures. The release is planned for early 2022.

To keep momentum during the pandemic, the band and label Music For Dreams commissioned a string of remixes from their debut album from the likes of Gerd Janson, Red Axes, Musumeci, Pete Herbert, Peaking Lights, Superpitcher + many more. Released on digital & Ltd Edition 12”

Hailing from Gent, Belgium the band are set to tour upon the release of their second album 'Atlantis Atlantis' planned for the 4th of February 2022.
