Independent Production of Electronic, Low-Fi, Ambient and Random Habitual Noise. Habitually making one-off moments in sound using synthesisers, drum machines and effects pedals in hardware (No DAW) with live, low-fi recording.

Ed B. is a British multi-media artist with a passion for producing electronic music and visuals through his love of hardware synthesisers and drum machines combined with his passion for film photography.

Working under the name of "Habitual Noise" for his music and "HIYAFOTO" for his photography, he was born in East London, UK and began his passion for electronic music and photography in his teens.

Influenced by musicians such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Harold Budd, Cocteau Twins and Aphex Twin, he began by producing his own mix tapes on his dad's "GEC Music Centre" in the 1980s, before investing in his own small bedroom mixing setup based on equipment from Radio Shack. 

At the same time he progressed his passion in photography studying the art at high school, working with black and white 35mm film, developing and printing his own work in an age before digital photography.

Skip forward 40 years after a career in technology, the pandemic creates an opportunity for him to invest more time in his passions for electronic music and photography creating a studio for "HIYAFOTO" and space for his music by starting "Habitual Noise".

Applying similar principles to his music as he does to his photography, he seeks to capture a "moment in sound", often working in a single take, recording a "one-time-never-to-be-repeated" combination of sounds from his environment, hardware synthesisers, drum machines and effects.

Ed B. loves the imperfections of film photography and so seeks to introduce analogue artifacts into his music, using lo-fi hardware to introduce noise.
