Multi 6-channel field recording of a Jacobs ladder also known as the (high voltage traveling arc) which is a device for producing a continuous train of large electrical sparks that rise upwards. The spark gap is formed by two wires, approximately vertical in position but gradually diverging from each other towards the top in a narrow V Shape. When high voltage is applied to the gap, a spark forms across the bottom of the wires where they are nearest each other, rapidly changing to an electric arc. The sparks can burn through thin paper and plastic and start fires, and contact with the exposed high voltage conductors can be lethal. For this recording I used a Sound Devices 744T/Mixpre-D with the Neumann RSM-191A/S kit microphone recording at the base of the transformer channels 1/2, then two DPA 4060 lav microphones channels 3/4 placed at far left and right positions beside the wire rods to capture a nice wide stereo image between the electrical arcs. The third stereo signal was from the Zoom H6 placed at the source of the the electrical sparks near the bottom of the wire rods. All files recorded at 24-bit-96khz. Free Download
