What you hear in this track are the very high pitched and ultrasonic parts of the crickets songs slowed down and brought into the audible spectrum. Originally these frequencies were mostly between 20 and 40 kHz, well beyond our normal hearing range. 
The result sounds quite unusual, a bit creepy and extraterrestrial but also very cool. It doesn't sound like crickets anymore, more like dinosaurs, I imagine... or a gang of drunk roosters... LOL

This is a field recording of the 2024 eclipse in totality collected at the Restored Wetland Pond at Fernald Nature Preserve near Hamilton, OH. 

Listen for the Barred Owl call at 00:02:11. Totality begins at 00:02:26 with a single gunshot*, followed by many more as totality commences.  Frogs began calling at 00:06:22.

* Fernald is located near a gun club.
