I liked reading your notes...the gal showing up with a tambourine at the local coffee house...baby rattle in place of that? Works!  You did the harp, though?  great vocals...has a great timbre and fits the Dylan-esque version...strumming this at the backyard fire-pit I trust. Stay well!:)

Bob Dylan is famous for adding/removing/changes verses from concert to concert and Mr. Tambourine Man is no exception. Playing live, I wanted a song that the audience could easily identify with and hopefully sing along with.  The Byrds' version just makes that easy.  From time to time, a woman will show up at the local coffee house and bring her tambourine (as well as other percussion instruments) to play along and when she's there. If she shows up, I try and play this song.

To me, Mr. Tambourine Man is the antithesis of the "sand man" since he seems to keep you awake. In some sense, it is probably about how Dylan wandered around all night getting inspiration for another song. Some have written that the Tambourine Man himself is based on a person called Bruce Langhorne who played lead guitar on the original recording of this song, and someone who actually did own a large tambourine.

In Roger McGuinn's version, there is just one verse which is wrapped around several versions of the chorus.  Even so, it never appears that repetitiveness leads to boredom.  And it's another chance to pull out the 12 string which I never fail to enjoy.  In this version, David Crosby, of Crosby, Still, Nash and Young fame, did the vocal harmonies. I humbly follow in his footsteps and truly found these incredibly large shoes to fill.

It's a relatively short song so I added the verse chords for a solo section then finish off with another chorus.

BTW: I don't own a tambourine but I have a baby rattle which has some bells on it.  I think it works ok.

Somewhere I read that SoundCloud is the DIY of the music world.  Very true for most of us wannabe (famous) musicians.  For those who were lucky enough to spend years in an actual sound studio, maybe this is a slam dunk. For the rest of us, it's like being the Wright brothers before they fully understood the science behind aerodynamics much less get a machine to fly.

I have learned a lot in 2018 thru 2019 while playing at small, local venues.  It's a lot easier to sit back in a "recording studio".  I do put that in quotes since, for me, this is just a couple of microphones connected to a DAW which is connected to a computer with some multi-track software and some free plugins to enhance the finished product.  I believe there are about 5 unique disciplines to learn which include: playing an instrument, singing, doing both together, using a microphone, connecting with the audience.  I have much more respect for stage performers now, especially solo artists. Now, if one adds the discipline of recording engineer, well then, you have a well rounded musical background. 

I do hope that you enjoy some of my tunes.  I'm always happy to hear from listeners who have something meaningful to share, even when it is not particularly flattering or in someway odd.  I'll even try to answer any questions you may have.  Remember that you are never too old nor too young to create and share your music and/or share your knowledge.
