Written by Rick Burch and Kathy Norton. Here's the backstory: Meggie, who has Down syndrome, had watched her big brother ride the “big yellow school bus” for years.   As Kindergarten approached, Meggie was REALLY excited about joining her brother on the bus.  But, the school was worried about whether she had the skills to ride the bus safely and recommended that she ride on the Special Education van.  Meggie's mom, Kathy, advocated for her and the school agreed that Meggie could ride the bus as long as she consistently showed she was a safe, responsible passenger.   Knowing that Meggie loves music, Kathy wrote these lyrics to help her learn... the Rules of the Bus!  Kathy asked me to record the song and this is the result. Meggie loves "her" song and listens to it daily. Imagine if Tim Burton asked Kate Bush to create a song cycle with Danny Elfman and commissioned Bjork to produce it.

Croatian-born, London-based Helena spent her childhood giving classical recitals around the world, blissfully unaware of pop, until a chance conversation with a lecturer inspired her to set a poem to music. For the rest of her degree Helena hid in her bedroom, channelling Kate Bush, Danny Elfman and Bjork to create her eerie piano pop songs.  

Breaking free of the classical world, Helena’s eerie piano fairy tales have been featured on BBC 6 Music Introducing, Dandelion Radio and an Audio Antihero compilation with artists such as Jeffrey Lewis, Diane Cluck and Darren Hayman.

Playing piano since I was four and studied in a musical school for ten years. Though, I always felt that playing by notes and singing in a choir is not enough to become a musician. I needed to be able to play anything I want by ear so, by starting improvising, I've found my own style of playing. When I teach children to play piano or sing, I offer them improvisation right from the beginning. I wish I was taught that way, since until my mid-30s I had hard times to relax and believe in my ability to create my own music. Twelve years ago my husband (@arty-sandler) finally convinced me to record some of my improvisations and we opened this account on SoundCloud - it happened in July, 2012.

You won't find a single particular genre on my cloud: my musical tastes are rather eclectic. Jazz and soft rock are my favorites but I also play blues, classical, folk, middle-eastern, New Age, ambient and others. Piano and vocal are my main instruments but together with my husband we also experiment a lot with different arrangements and orchestrations. 

When we started uploading our music to SoundCloud back in 2012, it was first shy attempts to record my improvisations straight from a keyboard. Many things have evolved since then. Over the years we've grown into a professional recording and composing studio, with a conservatory grand piano in an acoustically treated room and a bunch of microphones and other recording equipment. We scored a few documentaries, short films and animations. This year my orchestral and piano solo works were performed by Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra for Bryan Arias’s ballet show based on “The Little Prince” story. We've published three books with my original scores for solo piano and released twenty original full-length albums (solo piano, multi-instrumental and original songs in various genres) and numerous singles that have been streamed over 70 million times across multiple platforms.

Hey everyone. Thanks for listening. I'm putting up some songs I've written and some covers of songs I love. I'm based in Kansas City and enjoy making music, producing, songwriting, and mixing.

I very much started out playing instruments very late in life, and spent much of my earlier days listening to it, rather than playing it. I am very much a self taught musician and regard my instruments very much like implements, tools or devices to write with, rather than being anything remotely near a good playing musician of any great technique. 

I guess I really got into instruments more back in 1994 when I got into my first band (though I did learn to play the Harmonica when I was 8 years old) it was around this time I wrote a song on the Guitar entitled Oldtime Street. The song is very much even today one that contains some of the finest lyrics I have ever written, and very much perhaps inspired me to carry on.

Though the band back in 1994 was a very short affair, it was not long after I got into a R&B band performing Rock & Blues in various pubs around my own town Birmingham. I was very much the lead singer in this outfit which lasted some 6 years. Though during these years the band had gone through several line up and name changes and came to a stop in 2001. I suppose it was a bit of relief in a sense, because it's quite easy to put a band together, but murder to keep everyone happy, and keep it going.

Even though I only really did Vocals and played my Harmonica in the band, I still found time now and then, for my guitar, and my keyboards at home, and I also contributed in a big way to our own compositions in the band.
